Because I have been getting so many questions on the subject of immune health, for some pretty obvious reasons!, I recently wrote this article "Your Best Defense" for our clinic blog. Invest in yourself: fresh air, nourishing food, strong relationships, daily exercise, lots of rest and be healthy! https://prairieskyhealth.ca/your-best-defense/

This weekend, and it seems that it will continue every third weekend of the month for awhile, I have been tuning in to an incredible event called One Earth Live. It includes music, prayer and visionary talks from a wide array of brilliant voices from all over the planet. Of particular interest to me was the one by Dr Gregg Braden. It is a very empowering talk that speaks to how we can best get through these pandemic times, preserving and even actualizing our health. He does... an amazing job of communicating the point that humans are intelligently designed to be resilient in the face of disease and that when we reorient towards loving and caring for ourselves and our community, healing is possible. At least that is my interpretation! Listen for yourself. He offers so many nuggets. The whole event has been amazing. Check it out! And post your favourite events for us all to partake in. https://portl.com/artist/gregg-braden/

Even though things have slowed down for many (and picked up for many others), this does not mean that your health concerns have disappeared! And in many cases they might be amplified as reducing anxiety, finding peace in the uncertainty and desiring to keep yourselves as healthy as possible are of top priority right now. We understand that and are offering our services virtually to best support and protect you and your families. ... We want to assure you that we are still dedicated to working with you toward your health goals and hope that you are too. Call us anytime 306-757-HEAL [4325] to book your virtual or phone appointment! We also want you to know that our dispensary remains open to help you get the refills you might need. That being said, this too comes with it's share of modifications! We are now offering pick-up (and in special circumstances delivery) service for supplements. We ask that you call (306-757-4325) or email ([email protected]) the clinic to: 1) request the supplements you need; 2) pre-pay for them with credit card over the phone or send us an e-transfer. We will then package up your supplements for you, with receipt in the bag, clearly labelled with your name, and leave it for you for pick up during our open hours of 10 am to 3pm, Monday to Thursday. Thus minimizing person to person interactions. We are willing to also make some deliveries should the need arise (self-isolation, for eg.). Contact us directly to inquire about this option. Questions? post them in the comments below or contact us! Here to support you during these oddball times!

Spring really feels here today! The sun is shining, the sky is blue, trees are budding and the grass is getting greener. I hear the song of birds constantly these days. It is like they are more vocal than ever before. Perhaps because I am listening deeper, thanks to more time I have spent outside connecting with the earth, I hear them louder. Or perhaps because they really are singing louder, representing the voice of Mama Earth who has been so grateful for this break, th...is slowing down that our planet has experienced. As we in Saskatchewan start to emerge from our hibernation, while still respecting some of the safe practices we have adopted in the time we have been physically distancing, I strongly encourage you to get yourself out into the sunshine!! Aim to spend anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes in the sunshine, daily, without sunglasses and with your face, arms and even legs exposed, sunscreen-less. These short periods of exposure help to activate vitamin D in your skin. It is a powerful way to ensure you are enhancing your levels of this powerful nutrient. We have long known the importance of Vitamin D for mood, decreasing inflammation, balancing blood sugars and enhancing our immune systems. Right from the start of this coronavirus season we have been recommending taking optimal doses from 1000-5000 IU of Vitamin D for health maintenance. Recent research is specifically correlating adequate Vitamin D levels with protection from serious cases of COVID. I have included the link to a great article here. https://medicalxpress.com//2020-05-vitamin-d-role-covid-mo So be sure to take your vitamin D as a supplement, drink your fish oil (cod liver oil is particularly high in Vitamin D), consume vitamin D rich foods: eggs, fish, mushrooms, beef liver and fortified organic tofu. And, please, get yourself outside in nature! Not only to enhance your vitamin D levels, to reduce stress hormones, breathe deeply in the fresh air, connect with the earth and move your body! Nature really is one of the best medicines!

Here are some of the strategies we recommend for keeping your immune system strong and to enhance your ability to ward off viruses: Do your best not to live in fear or anxiety of the situation. Yes, it is a serious matter that requires our attention. However, it is important to note that when we get trapped in a fear response our immune systems shut down in favour of survival mechanisms, which actually further heighten our anxiety! Be wise and discerning about your lifes...Continue reading

Watch for symptoms of the Coronavirus. Remember that for most of us this illness will present like any respiratory infection. For those with lowered immunities this may hit harder so it is essential to be wary of this and ensure you limit/ avoid contact with your friends and family that may be elderly or working with a serious illness, when you are ill. The following information is from Maclean’s magazine March 12, 2020. Symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after expo...Continue reading

COVID-19 is spreading the globe and it is time for us at Prairie Sky Integrative Health to weigh in on the conversations. Please, take a deep breath, keep a level head and review the following information in order to help us reduce the spread of this viral illness and keep our community as strong and healthy as we can! First of all, we want to let you know what we are doing around the clinic to maintain a healthy environment. For now, we have chosen to remain OPEN for pati...ent and client care. https://prairieskyhealth.ca/ We will be available to see our patients and clients, as long as we ourselves are free of any illness and until otherwise advised by Health Canada or our regulatory body. We are fully amenable to using telemedicine to serve you, so if you prefer to have your appointment conducted over the phone or via Skype, in order to limit your own personal exposure, please do let us know and we are happy to oblige. We do encourage you to give us at least 24 hours notice when cancelling your appointment, as our time is valuable and others may be waiting to see us. However, we do understand that this is not always possible and if you are canceling due to illness, our cancellation fee will be waived at this time, due to the need to reduce community spread of illness. Please remember should you choose a phone or Skype consultation instead of coming into the office, simply let reception know ahead of your scheduled appointment time. We have always worked hard to maintain a clean office space for our community. We have increased our commitment to cleanliness and are washing down all high-contact surfaces, such as door knobs, water cooler dispensers, taps, toilets, debit/ credit machine, etc. multiple times a day. We ask that you step into the bathroom upon your arrival to and on departure from the clinic and give your hands a good 20 second wash with soap and warm water. As staff and professionals, we are also committed to regular hand-washing throughout the day and most especially in between clients. A reminder that hand-washing remains the most effective way to reduce the spread of all communicable illnesses including COVID- 19. Additional measures taken and advised include: As professionals we will commit to the use of gloves when doing any physical examinations. We do our best to run on time, and we are even more dedicated to doing so during this pandemic, in order to minimize your time spent in shared common area spaces of the clinic. Avoid touching your mucous membranes: eyes, nose or mouth, with unwashed hands. We launder the sheets, pillowcase and towels used for massage/ bodytalk, Bemer, acupuncture and Reiki between each use. They are never used for multiple patients. Though we are all about the love, we will be respecting your personal space and refraining from hand-shaking and hugging during this time.
