President windbag is accepting his likely loss with all the expected (dis)grace we have come to expect. I can’t wait for this childish attention vampire to be out of the limelight by January. Bye to this racist, sexist, narcissistic liar. (For anyone who denies these objective truths, you might as well deny the sky is blue and that the sun rises in the east.) #trumpsucks #bidenharris2020

Today is both a resurfacing and diving off point for me. I am re-emerging from a very high demand and stressful period of work. While the stresses are mostly all gone, I find a resonance of them remains. Reverberations. They seem disproportionate and almost surprising. I have been here before. Stopping to breath and be in the forest and by the ocean around me is my oasis. Deep breath. My shoulders drop and I didn’t even consciously know that I was holding them. What is your oasis? Where do you go to pause, to be and to renew? #naturopath #breath #relax #oasis #naturelover

Fantastic to have grandpa visit! We hadn’t seen him in person since February due to the pandemic. I am grateful for video calls keeping us connected. But it sure isn’t as good as an in person visit with hugs and hot chocolate. We love you grandpa!

Yesterday I went for a morning bike ride down to Spanish Banks with @joel_kailia. The weather and company were fabulous. On my way back I stopped for a hang and some calisthenics. The last photo shows what happens when your timer is too short and its been a while since you havent done a pull-up in a while. Enjoy these last days of summer!... #bikeriding #calisthenics #healthylifestyle

My son further practicing his earth bending! Do you remember when a pile of dirt was the best thing ever? I asked myself when did my first thought become, hell get so dirty instead of this looks like a mound of fun and adventure!

Dr. Patrick Callas, ND 11.09.2020

The dirt pile peak has been reached! It was higher than it looks and even more so when its about twice your height. What is the peak you are striving for or have climbed lately? #peakperformance #dirtpilefun #achieveyourgoals

Pudding! Toddler-approved. A healthy and easy vegan pudding you can make at home with a blender. Ingredients: 1 avocado , 1 banana , 1 scoop of your favourite vegan protein (we used Vega Sport mocha because daddy used it in his smoothie), 1 tsp Puricas Zensations (we used Mindful Breath), 1/4 tsp cinnamon or to taste, and 1 tsp maple syrup. Blend until smooth. Refrigerate for 30+ minutes or put in frozen banana to eat sooner on a hot day like today. ... Enjoy! We did. @puricawellness @purica_yvr @vega_team #healthyfood #naturopathic #veganrecipes #toddlerfood #purica #vega

Corn chip strawberry spear! It inspired him to eat all of his strawberries and few of the chips. What do you do to get more veggies and fruit in your meals? Most days I do a berry, greens and hemp heart smoothie. Often I supercharge it with @puricawellness vanilla Vegan Power Proteins with chaga mushrooms in it. Yum!... #chaga #medicinalmushrooms #purica #vegan #naturopathic

Too much wheat for about two weeks and the left side of my forehead decides to be a teenager again. This is better than when I was in my twenties and a single serving would make my guts angry and my brain fuzzy or tired. Progress! The skin is a superficial site and if theres irritation or imbalance, its better it appear there than internally. Sure, it can feel embarrassing, but its a very visible place to send a message. Hey cut down on the wheat Patrick! Also time for a detox. #skin #naturopathy #wheatintolerance #selfcaresunday

How did you start your Monday? I embraced discomfort by getting up at 5 am and going running at Hyannis Trail with the fabulous @glennkukkee The tranquility, trees and babbling brook made the early start so worth it.

What type of exercise are you doing? The bottomline is that most of us could use more. Light exercise, such as walking, is best done every day for 30 minutes or more. For optimal benefit, do weight bearing 2-3x per week and making sure to get your heart rate up (even with a brisk walk) are great ideas. Remember that even light weights with minimal breaks between can check both of these boxes and really get your heart rate up.... An often overlooked component of exercise is balance or coordination. It's a great idea to build in a regular practice that challenges our balance, such as yoga, tai chi, gymnastics, or parkour, depending on your skill and energy level. https://fullscript.com/blog/exercises

What is the best thing for me to eat? All of the diets out there and extraordinary dietary claims make answering this question much more difficult and convoluted than it need to be. A simple way to gauge if you are eating a nutritious diet is if you are eating a rainbow of plant foods every day? Each colour founds in vegetables and fruits reflects nutrients and antioxidants that help our bodies and minds healthy. So eat the rainbow! That's the foundation. Preferably eat an o...rganic rainbow because the less pesticides in our bodies the better. However, it organic vegetables & fruits are hard for you to come by, or too expensive, then just focus on the colours and don't worry too much about a little bit of pesticide exposure. Beyond that you can decide what best suites your own needs, goals and ethics in regards to eating meat or not, eating animal products (eg, eggs, cheese, milk) or not. https://www.lifebiotic.com/brighten-your-immune-system-by/

Do you want to test how healthy your immune system is doing? The tests that I recommend are IgG Food Sensitivities, Organic Acid Testing (OAT), vitamin D and white blood cells. The first three of these tests can be drop shipped right to your door and done at home. I am here to help. I am still practicing and doing Telemedicine appointments. Message me here or call my clinic, SCIMEDICA Health Group, at (604) 541-8811 to arrange a virtual appointment with me. ... I'm wishing you and your family the best, during this stressful, strange and pivotal time in history.

Dr. Patrick Callas, ND 03.02.2020

What else can I do to boost my immune system right now? 1. Heat up! Sweat in saunas or with exercise (that you can do with social distancing in place). Our immune systems work better under high heat and most bugs suffer harder. 2. Sleep - 8 hours or more per night. If you are having difficulties with that now due to the global anxiety about this pandemic, then try out reishi mushrooms and magnesium to help you relax before bed. 3. Optimize omega-3s - eat salmon, trout, sardin...es or other oily fish. Avoid large migratory fish like tuna and swordfish due to their high toxin load of especially mercury. Mercury is immune suppressive. 4. Your kitchen has (or easily can have) immune boosting goodies like ginger, garlic, cinnamon, chilly peppers, and more! 5. Probiotics - eat fermented foods or take a good quality probiotic supplement daily. They help regulate our immune system and improve digestion. See more

Don't lower your protein intake yet, but do eat more plants sources! The title of this study on dietary protein intake is misleading. The findings suggest that eating more plant-based proteins instead of animals ones may lower cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk. It is interesting that sulfur-containing amino acids (higher in meat) play a role, but I am not clear if they account for reduced cholesterol and fat-soluble toxins found in plants vs. animals. https://medicalnewsbulletin.com/study-investigates-the-be/

When you eat may be more important than what you eat. What? This does not mean if you adopt intermittent fasting that the all fast food and donut diet will be good for you. However, the data in terms of health and longevity on macronutrient ratios (meaning how much of your caloric intake comes from carbs, fat and protein) shows they don't matter much. I'd say this is very individual. And the take home message is that when and how much you eat is far more important. For those... interested in intermittent fasting, I recommend starting with an 11 hour eating window and 13 hours of no food or drinks (except water) most days of the week. If that goes well for you, then you can try building up to 16 hours of fasting and an 8 hour eating window. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6Dkt7zyImk
