COVID UPDATE: With the recent confirmation of community spread in Halifax/Central Zone, our clinic is restricting appointments for anyone or close contact with anyone that has travelled off of the CB island in the previous 14 days. This will be in effect indefinitely but will change once community spread is contained in the province. If you are affected by this change please call us and we can make alternate arrangements and ensure you are appropriately cared for. I feel t...his is important in keeping our patients, staff, and families as safe as possible. There are alternate arrangements we can make where necessary to alleviate pain etc., such as end of day appointments. I plead with you for honesty as we make providing dentistry as safe as possible. Our own staff has modified their plans to accommodate this safe approach, as we too have young families and older parents. These measures are beyond the minimum requirements set by our regulatory authorities, and if you have concerns please give us a call and we can make suitable arrangements. What to expect at the dentist: with our new reality, there are a number of minor changes made that will have an impact on protecting our clients and staff. We will ask you extensive screening questions about COVID19 and travel by phone when making and confirming appointments. We will ask you to wear a mask to your appointment, and bring your own pen (we have extra masks and pens if necessary). We will have you sanitize your hands upon entering the clinic, and fill out a sc...reening form. You will see our new barriers placed to protect staff, so they will not need to wear masks all day. Once in the treatment room, we will ask you to rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash. You will see us only wearing a mask initially, then depending on the procedure we may wear an isolation gown and face shield. After treatment, we will ask you to put your mask back on. We will ask you to wait in the treatment room until reception is ready for you. We ask that you sanitize your hands before you leave the room. We will call you 48 hours after your appointment to ensure you don't have any COVID19 symptoms. These changes seem strange but the principle is to break the chain of infection between persons. The extra screening and phone calls are to try to limit and discover any COVID19 infections early, and to limit exposure and spread. These are small changes but will allow us to deliver dental care in the safest way possible. We thank everyone for being patient through this pandemic. Many of you have had to deal with dental issues and has been difficult not being able to treat you in a timely manner. We are all playing our part in society to limit the spread of this virus. It isn't time yet to go back to normal, but we can proceed with care and concern, all in the interests of everyone's health and safety. Thank you for sticking with us through the challenges so far. Dental offices in Nova Scotia will be authorized starting June 5 to provide emergency and urgent dental treatment in their clinics. While dental offices have always followed strict infection control guidelines, they will be following additional protocols identified by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia and in collaboration with Public Health. What’s the difference between emergency, urgent, and non-urgent dental treatment? Dental emergency: potentially life-threatenin...g conditions which require immediate treatment. Urgent dental care: conditions that require immediate attention to relieve severe pain and/or risk of infection. Non-urgent dental care: includes regular check-ups and hygiene appointments and are not to be performed until June 19. Dentists will be able to provide all dental procedures starting on June 19. COVID 19 information- due to the detection of community spread, we are now unable to provide in person dental treatment for emergencies, an Order from the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. Our voicemail will still recieve messages and we will make arrangements to refer dental emergencies for our patients. The first step is still to call the office at 9025390099, and we will work with you to address your concerns. Effective March 31, the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia requires that emergency dental treatments be provided at designated Emergency Dental Clinics only. The screening below is still in effect and the office is closed until further notice, as we have no information on when the restrictions will lift. --------------------------------------------------------------- We are now asking anyone that has anyone in their home: 1. with respiratory illness; 2. That has travelled to an affected city or country; or 3. That has had a fever in the last 48 hours; to call us 9025390099 and reschedule. To be clear, this is if anyone in the household meets these criteria, no one from that household should attend a dental appointment unless they phone us first and we can determine the best course of action. All patients will be screened upon checkin and ask you use the hand sanitizer provided. We will be increasing disinfection efforts in waiting areas and removing magazines and toys, so please bring your own. It makes for a more pleasant experience and is especially helpful in getting a first cleaning or filling if you've been avoiding it. Unlike other methods that we offer, it has no lasting effect.
