Durham Region Women 30.10.2020

On August 22, 2019, representatives from our Durham Region Women's Club participated in the Wilmot Creek Golf Tournament and generously donated $1,000 to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, one of the beneficiaries of this year's tournament, as well as Special Olympics and Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre. It was a wonderful day of sunshine and spirit that raised $17,000! This is the second consecutive year the Durham Region Women's Club has supported the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation as they raise funds for the redevelopment and expansion of Bowmanville Hospital. On Saturday, August 17th four of our Club members, Sharon, Kathy, Nuala, and Joan hopped on the bus for Rita’s Braveheart Adventure Road Trip! This road trip took us to Santa’s Village in Bracebridge Ontario with the Pediatric Program from Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre. It was a day full of games & prizes on the bus, cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus, Lunch with Santa himself, a dance party river cruise, and rides within the Village! Even with the rain the fun and enthus...iasm never wavered! Rita Ciani organizes this Road Trip for the kids in the Pediatric Program as her way of giving back to Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre that helped her through her first cancer diagnosis and continues to do so to this day as she continues to battle her own cancer. Rita’s goal is to help the children and their families forget for a day and just enjoy being Kids! Her massive candy bar is a huge hit with the children (not so much for mom & dad). CPC, Durham Region Women not only provide volunteers for the day but also was able to provide a $1000.00 towards this worthwhile event. Looking forward to our next Road Trip Adventure with Rita’s Bravehearts!

Saturday, July 20th was Global Day of Inclusion, and all of the proceeds from the sale of Tim Hortons' Special Olympics donuts will go towards people with intel...lectual disabilities. Thank you to Joan DeGennaro, Events Chair, Canadian Progress Club, Durham Region Women who purchased 4 dozen donuts for the enjoyment of City of Pickering staff, and also for the benefit of Special Olympics athletes. Don't worry - Pickering's CAO, Tony Prevedel P. Eng, and I will have a lot of help in finishing this box of special edition donuts.
