Finished! Before I do anything next on a piece of artwork, (especially a commission near and dear to someones heart ), I sign the front with my "TE" sig. of course :) I layer this beforehand so the signature stays crisp. Otherwise, once I add a thick layer of isolation coat, the paint can bleed...this can't be fixed afterwards. I spray my signature with a matte varnish. Sometimes, I've used Liquitex Gloss Medium/Varnish; both work. All things to learn in paint and pai...nting when working with mixed-media materials. I think commissions are my new favourite thing...my goal in painting is to make clients happy through my use of colour I strive to provide a glimpse of how I re-imagine buildings, urban landscapes and house portraits. Scones. I absolutely love these for the holidays. I’m not the best baker, so I approach it like painting. I throw things in the mix and see what sticks. Merry Christmas! It’s been a busy morning. Got up early to get the jump on some Christmas activities. This is my mix for the Rosette cookies I make every year. It’s our family Christmas cookie- along with Gingersnaps, of course. Holidays seem to bring out all those family traditions. What’s your family holiday cookie you make each year? You'll recognize this artwork as I featured my new painting glasses with it before Christmas. Over the holidays, I've been playing around with this mountain painting in between looking at my other artwork on the wall. I took a break for a week or so to re-energize. My thoughts with this artwork was to darken the outside edges or sides of the painting to zero in on the middle part of the artwork. I think I've got it right without it being too dramatic. I'll put an isolation ...coat on it today so I can protect the artwork for now. That's a super messy job and it still makes me nervous as I'm putting it on thicker than I normally do - thanks to @DavidLangevin for his suggestions on layering this medium :) Enter to win a commissioned painting by #TheresaEisenbarth! I’ve been reworking this piece called A Monumental Climb. It’s part of a mountain painting. It reminds me of people who suffered during the war, like my mother. When I look at how far I have come and where I want to go this coming year... well... it can be overwhelming. So, where should I start? Anywhere and Anytime! So if you have a goal... for your art, business, health or life... don't worry about having it all sorted out before you put ...it in motion... Begin. Start. Move. Paint! I’ve known the Cote family for many years. Such a joy for Mathilda to have this painting.

I had to buy new glasses with a blue light to work in my studio because the halogen lights were hurting my eyes. These help a lot but now I look like Mr. Magoo!!! Lol! Taking some time to do some painting just for me... Merry Christmas to me! :) Varnishing this painting for myself. I hate having bare walls staring at me. This one is just for me as I’ve not painted too many mountains before. Turning out great I think... but more importantly it is exactly what I need right now. #missingBanff

I’ve been working on this large house portrait this week. As I posted in a video on Instagram @artist_theresa_eisenbarth there’s a lot of ruler work. It takes me about 3 days to get most of the lines down before I can start to add colour. A t-square ruler is your friend!

A new project often starts as an empty, white surface. In the end, it doesn’t matter what you paint on. I paint on wood because I like the firm support and it allows me to build them in all sizes; not just the standard ones you find in the art store.

It's a sanding day today....nothing like doing this on a Monday morning to wake up the mind for the work week. My boards are all made of birch wood and custom built. The art-making process starts with prepping the board, sanding it smooth and adding protective coatings, before I apply two layers of white gesso.....all to protect the artwork from chemicals in the wood. Today is the start of a new commission artwork. ... Yes....if you are wondering, I take commissions on a regular basis. I'm honoured to work with clients to create a piece that they love. The gym, swimming pool and kid programming has been a refuge and safe community for kids growing up in troubled homes. We spent MANY hours at the YMCA when we were little. My mother had a garden the size of half a football field and spent most of the hot summer months hoeing, watering beans, peas, potatoes and other vegetables and then preparing them to feed us for the long winter months. She would purchase a summer swim pass for my sisters and me. After a lunch of homemade soup and sandwiches, we would tootle off to the YMCA from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. every summer afternoon to swim in the pool. In those days, there were no summer camps. The staff, particularly the lifeguards at the Y, was our family. We were given free swim guidance and created a numerous plethora of water games to eat up the afternoon. I was that kid who couldn’t afford a regular membership. I am reminded of the YMCA staff kindness when I visited the Y premises recently. Even though there are now many exercise facilities to join, I will always stay loyal to the YMCA because of their philosophy of helping kids in need. Moving some art around. Needed the trailer for this big piece. Large work is fun to paint but the scale is difficult to deal with on many levels, especially if you’re a one man show! Hopefully this piece finds a home:)

I was out the other day doing an errand to drop off some plants on the hill. I looked down this alley and couldn’t help myself. More back alleys to paint.... what can I say but they inspire me! Wet roads are welcome this time of year for sure.

I finished this commissioned artwork the week before I left for #Regina. I thought you might be interested in the process.... I posted a couple of pics showing the development of the artwork. I start with a grid and draw out the image in black values, I add a middle, dark values to key the painting. Then I start adding many layers of color. Normally I add my own #doorhardware to the painting, but in this case, my client had her own key to personalize the painting even more!... I’m super happy with the view she selected for this final #artpiece as it encapsulates all the stories of her husband.... he loved to create beautiful flowers arrangements. Often when I do commissioned artwork, I ask if they have any keys to add to the piece. If it’s a house, keys are usually dug up in an old area in the recesses of the basement. These are an example of those keys; one a new key when the house was renovated and an old, skeleton key from when it was built. I leave the meaning of the keys left with the client.... I finished this artwork a few weeks ago....It’s one of those pieces you start and other work events get in the way of the finishing process. This is from a family connection in Wassenaar, Holland on my moms side....it’s known as the pub in our family, but the official name is Café 't Hoekje. It was run by my moms cousin, Quirien and has been in the family since 1924. It is still there and frequently supported and visited by locals on one of the oldest corners of the old Dutch city. 32x74 inches, Acrylic-Mixed Media on Birch. Private Commission.

It was a pleasure finishing this artwork for a client recently. In October, this house usually has a captivating Charlie Brown - the great pumpkin display outside. The plan from the owner is to have the framed painting stay in the house, even after they are no longer there. A lovely gift.

Back to work this week in the studio. Seems a funny transition as I haven’t had a break since Christmas. I’ve a few commissions I’m finishing up this month from the exhibit.
