David LePage has recently published Marketplace Revolution from Concentrated Wealth to Community Capital. If you are interested in constructive social change and social justice and would like an unbearably practical way to go about it and to find your place in it, this Buy Social Canada Social Value Marketplace podcast with David is a great place to begin the journey into, what he calls, a Social Value Marketplace. There are three practices converging to make it possible. S...ocial Enterprise, Social Procurement, and Social Value Finance. This convergence is necessary and underway. David speaks to each of them in this conversation and in his book. This podcast was produced by Axiom News in collaboration with Buy Social Canada. . . . . . An incredibly important message shared by Charmaine Magumbe, chair of the Community Race Relations Committee of Peterborough through this article in the Peterborough Examiner. "We, all people from all walks of life, need to come together to fight the ugliness of racism. It is not enough to say there is no racism. Not enough to attend BLM rallies. Not enough to say I am not a racist. We must be anti-racist."... Please read and share: . . . . . #BlackLivesMatter #Ptbo

We are bringing back the One City Ptbo clean team to Downtown Peterborough starting June! The program will feature a team of people from One City Ptbo with var...ious barriers to employment who will be hired to enhance the downtown streetscape through added cleaning efforts. The DBIA issued a new request for proposals for the downtown Streetscape Maintenance Contract with an additional request that proposals include a social enterprise component. We re-hired Clint’s Property Maintenance in partnership with One City Ptbo in January. The partnership will see One City Ptbo team members working with the Clint’s Property Maintenance team in the busy, warmer months. The One City Ptbo program aims to help people with barriers to employment to get back into the workforce, including connecting team members with local employment agencies and potential employers. The One City Ptbo team will be downtown during the day with cleaning carts sweeping sidewalks, picking up litter, removing old posters from lampposts, safely disposing of needles, and other micro-cleaning tasks.

So many small businesses are experiencing a negative impact by the pandemic; 1-in-3 businesses are unsure if they will be still in business over the next year a...ccording to a Canadian study. We are so grateful for your generous supports from the community in the past months. However, your support still remains very crucial to local downtown businesses. If your income is secure or if you are planning to purchase something, please consider shopping downtown and local. To minimize the risk, it is still a good idea to shop online first. We encourage you to order from your favourite restaurant, shop online, purchase gift cards, or stream via www.theboro.ca. When you are visiting downtown, please practice physical distancing! Thank you for supporting the local economy!

With a swell of love and respect for Ondrej Illini, Peterborough citizens have raised money to purchase a bench and a tree in his memory. Other plans, including providing minimum barrier services for downtown residents, are in the works. We have an opportunity to create a program in Ondrej’s honour if we can secure a sympathetic landlord, says Sam Blondeau. https://www.electriccitymagazine.ca//citizens-explore-way/

On May 4, Peterborough lost a genuinely kind, caring man dubbed The King of the streets, Ondrej Illini. His loss has catalyzed an outpouring of fond memories, tributes and a wealth of ideas on how to best honour Ondrej's legacy of authentic warmth and kindness. There’s so much support here, it’s overwhelming and has given me so much more faith in this community knowing that people don’t want Ondrej forgotten and that means not forgetting about his friends and peers, sa...ys Cody-Blue Cassidy Hough, a friend of Ondrej's who started both a tribute Facebook group and a GoFundMe page in his honour.
