It's another sobreity milestone! Congratulations Quinton, who today celebrates 2 years of sobriety! #WeDoRecover #TogetherWeCan #RecoveryLife
Together We Can wishes Kyle M congratulations on 5 years of sobriety! Kyle completed treatment through our Main Center, where residents apply the principles of the 12 steps to effect change in their lives. Many people know the 12 steps are a daily program focused on One Day At A Time, and Kyle has turned his knowledge and desire to change into 1825 continuous days of Sobriety. Congratulations Kyle!
Together We Can alumnus Essi grew up as a boy soldier in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, overcame childhood sexual assault, became a father in his teens, and as an adult fought to overcome his addiction. Essi uses his lived experience to help others recover from addiction as a mental health coach. What is codependancy, and how can codependancy impact the journey of recovery from addiction? In today's article, Sonaiya Wilson examines the characteristics of codependency, and how you can build a toolkit to effect change in your life, and the lives of people around you.
The journey away from drug and alcohol addiction to recovery is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. As recovering addicts, we get to build lives we are proud of, heal relationships with our friends and family, make our dreams become a reality and live to our full potential. It isn’t a lie when other addicts in recovery tell us that there are many gifts along the way, but we have to work hard to get them. Your suitcase should contain these 10 essentials items for your journey of becoming free from addiction.
Music is powerful, emotional, and impacts so much of our lives. As Music Therapy Awareness month comes to a close, read about how we can use music to help us heal, how alumnus Julian is giving back to our music therapy program, and how Blair, another alumnus is building a future in the music industry. https://twcrecoverylife.org//harnessing-the-power-of-musi/

Today Vince P, one of our Group Facilitators celebrates 6 years of sobriety! Vince is a huge example of how working a program of recovery benefits everyone around you. Not only does he engage our clients in group, he spends his time keeping recovering addicts both spiritually and physically fit! Often after group, he can be found playing basketball with the residents at Together We Can, and in his free time, is a large part of the recovery community in Vancouver. We asked Vi...nce what advice he had for a newcomer to recovery, and he provided the same advice that he tells the residents in his groups. "If you apply discipline and consistency your life WILL change!" Congratulations Vince on 6 years of Sobriety, and Thank You from everyone at TWC for your discipline, and consistency. #WeDoRecover #TogetherWeCan #RecoveryLife
Congratulations Monty on your two year sobriety milestone! We recently asked Monty to share a personal message on his recovery with us, and he was more than happy to give us this advice! I still ask myself What am I afraid to say? That is usually exactly what I need to talk about if I want to heal and grow. I feel that 2 years is just the beginning. I was promised a new attitude and outlook on life and it happened! It’s a slow process but I’ve grown from hopelessness to optimism.
Congratulations Colton on reaching 5 years of sobriety! Colton is an alumnus of our main center, our primary treatment facility. We asked Colton to share with us one of the gifts of recovery, and he told us: "I’d say the best gift I’ve received from recovery would be friendship. It’s impossible for me to work a program of recovery with out people, the program blessed me with people to help me along the way." Congratulations of 5 amazing years!... #WeDoRecover #RecoveryLife #TogetherWeCan
Congratulations TWC Alumnus John F on reaching your 1 year sobriety milestone! John is a graduate of our Solid Ground program, our non-spiritual biopsychosocial addiction treatment program!

Today the staff and clients want to wish Dave D a heartfelt congratulations on 4 years of sobriety! Triple D, as Dave is affectionately known by all offers the following advice to the newcomer. "Listen to learn and learn to listen. Do what is in front of you. Reach out your not alone. Just stay, then you don't have to come back. If only I heeded these simple words 27 years ago my journey began. " Congratulations Dave!
Today, our friend and colleague Ronald celebrates 2 years clean time! A heartfelt congratulations go out to Together We Can alumni Kirk C on his 2 year milestone! We recently asked Kirk what helped him most in his recovery, and he... told us "it is critical for the newcomer to find a responsible member of of AA or NA, to take them through the steps before their disease takes over and tells them they can do it on their own. " "If Mick from TWC had not took me through the steps in my early sobriety. I would not be where I am today, relieved from the obsession of drugs and alcohol." Congratulations Kirk, keep spreading the message of recovery! #wedorecover #recoverylife
This weekend, one of our resident's favorite counsellors and group facilitators celebrated an amazing milestone of 6 years of sobriety! Mike enjoys connecting with residents, and believes that his journey through addiction is one of his greatest assets as it allows him a clear understanding of how residents think and act. Anyone who knows Mike can attest to his love of hockey, especially the Edmonton Oilers, and this weekend, two of the staff surprised him with a personal me...ssage from Zack Kassian. This joy-filled moment certainly makes all of us appreciate that it's the connections we build in recovery that allow us to bring happiness to each other's lives. Congratulations Mike on 6 amazing years! Learn more about Mike C at https://twcrecoverylife.org/togetherwecan/mike-cain/

Today we celebrate William Place on 3 years of recovery! Will has been and continues to be a vital member of the Together We Can family. Starting in intake support, Will would often be the first point of contact for new arrivals, showing them hope, comfort and empathy. Today, Will is working on hard on bettering his life and career by attending school to become an Addictions Counselor! His role with the society is one-on-one case management and group facilitation. Will does ...a fantastic job of giving space to TWC’s residents so they can explore their emotions, mental health and become solution focused. His ability to create a warm, comforting and non-judgemental space is well received by every client that Will works with. As an alumni of TWC, Will carries and expresses a special knowledge and care for the new comers at Together We Can. His personal recovery is based on being a responsible member of the AA fellowship that is always there to help. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, Will! When asked what he would tell someone who is still struggling with addiction, Will said "I would tell someone that there is hope. No matter what someone's situation is, there is hope for change." One of his favorite memories since coming into recovery is competing in the Whistler Iron Man competition. #recoverylife #wedorecover #TWC #TWCAlumni #togetherwecan

Congratulations to TWC Alliance Alumni, James A. on 5 years of clean time! James was one of the first residents of the Alliance program back when it started in 2015 and has always been one of our biggest cheerleaders! Since getting clean, James has worked tirelessly to share a message of hope, compassion, love and understanding that has touched the lives of many people both at Alliance and in the recovery community. Prior to COVID, James would be a consistent visitor, a part... of the process groups, volunteered as a support worker, and would welcome each new person with open arms. We are blessed to be a part of your recovery journey, James! (PS: We know who sends the secret pizza deliveries!) When asked what recovery means to him and any advice he has for those who are new, James said Recovery to me is everything today. It’s freedom from self and the ability to help others. My advice is that no matter what you are going through in life/recovery you are worth friends, love and most importantly to live a life without the chaos of addiction. #WeDoRecover #RecoveryLife #TWC #TWCAlliance #Alliance #Love #Compassion #Care #Understanding #Empathy

We're always happy to announce our alumni milestones, and we take great pride in wishing Sophie L. a bright and joyous 1 year sobriety birthday today! Sophie is an alumni of our LGBTQ+ inclusive Alliance program, designed to support those seeking recovery through a trauma-informed care lens. When we asked Sophie to reflect on her journey to recovery, she told us, "Our recovery paths are not always straight and narrow, I know mine sure has not been. No matter how hopeless you feel or how many times you have to come back, never give up on your self or loose hope. Keep coming back no matter what, because your worth it!" Sophie never gave up on achieving sobriety, and Alliance always welcomed her back with open arms and endless support. Congratulations Sophie!

Thank you so much for showing us all that recovery works if you work it, and helping others on their path to a new #recoverylife
