Accelerate ACL Awareness Among Young Women Day is a campaign to raise awareness among parents, coaches, educators, and young women, so that young women may be educated on how to prevent and treat ACL injuries. Did you know that of the 200,000 people with ACL issues in the United States each year, females are at higher risk of an ACL injury? Females are two to eight times more likely to strain their ACLs in sports with cutting and jumping than males are think gymnastics, bas...ketball, and soccer. #AccelerateAclAwarenessAmongYoungWomenDay #NationalAaaywDay #AaaywDay #kneehealth #ACL #injuryprevention https://www.checkiday.com//accelerate-acl-awareness-among-

Age proof your knees! Harvard Health Publishing from Harvard Medical School gives some great suggestions to prevent knee pain especially as we age. But, more importantly, first understanding the biomechanics (aka, the interworking's) of your knee will set you up to live pain-free. https://www.health.harvard.edu/pain/age-proof-your-knees... #ageproof #kneepain #kneepainrelief #Biomechanics

Did you know that ostriches have two kneecaps? The ostrich is quite a special animal. It is the largest bird that exists, but unlike other birds, the ostrich does not fly and runs very fast. Another difference between the ostrich and other animals is that this bird has 2 kneecaps, positioned one above the other. The upper patella allows the ostrich to extend its knee more quickly. It decreases the leverage effect of the muscles involved in extending the leg, which is the opposite effect to the kneecap in species with only one kneecap. For the second patella, researchers have not yet been able to establish what the exact use would be. The hypothesis shared so far is that this kneecap would protect the tendons. #FunFactFriday #knees
