This year’s IWD theme is #ChooseToChallenge A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change! Women of the world want and deserve a future free from stigma, stereotypes, and violence; a future that’s sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities. To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made. In 2020, women on the global average represented just 4.4% of CEO’s, 25% of national parliamentarians, and 13% of ...peace negotiators. Only 22 countries currently have a woman as Head of State or Government and 119 countries have never experienced this. With this current trajectory, our world won’t see gender parity in the highest offices before 2150. In her statement, UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka says: "No country prospers without the engagement of women. We need representation that reflects women and girls in their diversity and abilities, across all cultural, social, economic, and political situations. This is the only way we will get real societal change." This year we are being asked to show our support by raising our hands and committing to call out inequality. #ChooseToChallenge by raising your hand high to show the world you’re in! #ChooseToChallenge #IWD2021 #TakeActionForEquality
