Rigid social distancing rules for COVID-19 based on outdated science. (The BMJ - British MedicalJournal) "...distancing rules need to take account of the multiple factors that affect risk, including type of activity, indoor versus outdoor settings, level of ventilation and whether face coverings are worn. Viral load of the emitter, duration of exposure, and susceptibility of an individual to infection are also important. For example, in the highest risk situations, such as a ...crowded bar or nightclub, physical distancing beyond 2 meters and minimizing occupancy time should be considered, while less stringent distancing is likely to be adequate in low risk scenarios." https://medicalxpress.com//2020-08-rigid-social-distancing

Join the Live Event Day of Visibility - September 22, 2020! Traditionally, theatres are dark on Monday, allowing everyone involved a day off. We will light the night RED on Tuesday, a night that would normally bring bright marquees and lit stages. We support an amazing variety of industries and possess a remarkable collection of skills. We are coming together to showcase the magnificent scope of live events, and the people who create them.... We need your help to shine a light on the tens of thousands of live event workers who are in the wings while theatres, convention halls and arenas remain dark. PS. We want to ensure that everyone can participate, and our previous date is Rosh Hashanah, a celebration of the Jewish New Year. https://liveeventcommunity.org/day-of-visibility-date-chan/

We were the first out of our jobs, and all indications are that we will be the last back. Many people are facing choices between food and rent, or are facing evictions. Production personnel and artists, companies all across production and entertainment are fading to black. On Saturday, 19 September 2020, an hour after sundown, we are asking technicians, suppliers and venues across the country to light the night red raising awareness for an industry that is still dark. First... I need you to share this information with your entertainment professional networks. From a small stage in your favorite pub through production companies this is all our issue. We need to support each other in this and is about you, them and really all of us. Please check the attached letter or visit the links at the bottom for more details. On this night let us do a little of what we love to show the world we will not be forgotten. https://liveeventcommunity.org/day-of-visibility-announcem/ Join the discussion at #webuildentertainment https://www.facebook.com/groups/250353936179843/ Get the newsletter to put any updates in your inbox. https://liveeventcommunity.org/signup/

The research about singing and playing Musial instruments continues: International Coalition of Performing Arts Aerosol Study Round 2 Dr. Shelly Miller: Aerosol generating activities have the potential to transmit COVID-19 as the research shows, but we have very little data on what kinds of generation happen when playing instruments. We will be studying this phenomenon in our aerosol laboratory at the University of Colorado Boulder and with this data, will be able to provide better evidence-based guidance. https://www.nfhs.org//aerosol-study-prelim-results-round-2
Orchestras Canada has announced an exciting 'Re-Launch' Online Learning Series, featuring a number of their original conference presenters, along with new speci...al events specifically designed to help orchestras adapt to the new normal and to prepare for a successful and resilient relaunch. Not just for orchestras, but for most of us in the live entertainment business, IMO. I am particularly drawn to the one on 'Re-Opening your Orchestra' on Aug 14 and Sep 10, presented by two long-time live event colleagues and friends - Chris Walroth, the Production Manager of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Janet Sellery, of the Event Safety Alliance. I have just registered for both. While I no longer work in the orchestra world, the Stirling Festival Theatre presents a number of large bands and musical groups where this expertise and training is key for safety returning our audiences as well as our staff and performers. Free to Orchestra Canada members and only $25 per session for non-members. Check out Orchestras Canada's other online offerings here: https://oc.ca/en/nationalconference/20
