Family Day..... Officially, BC Family Day is a provincial statutory holiday. British Columbians celebrate Family Day on the third Monday of February. BC Family Day gives families the opportunity to spend time with their loved ones. If you feel like I do, and you’ve have had plenty o’ time with your loved ones this past year. Here’s what I suggest. Book with us to take your family out in the mountains this weekend. Let us take care of the reservations, enjoy lift line pr...iority all day long, and let us make the terrain choices. Enjoy skiing / riding off piste in bounds or go for a backcountry tour into Garibaldi Park with one of our ACMG guides. Enjoy your family. Enjoy where you live. Happy Family Day weekend from our Extremely Canadian family to yours.
*photos by Mark Going, Las Lenas Ski, 2009* Getting dressed to head up the mountain the other day, I watched Peter put on the same black base layer he puts on day after day. Feeling like Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day, or maybe, just maybe, like someone whose been married and working with the same person for 25+ years, I asked, with unwarranted and unnecessary irritability, how freaking old was his shirt. I swear to gosh, I have been watching the same guy, put on the same s...hirt for decades. The shirt is old, well worn and well loved. But holding on and looking like it has a lot of life in it. Like a harbinger of our marriage and our business He said, I dunno know..five years, maybe? Ha! I laughed. Thinking that’s the same answer he gave me back in 1994 when I asked him about this Extremely Canadian thingy we were starting. 1994 Me: How long do you think we’ll do this.? ..this Extremely Canadian thingy? 1994 Peter: Five years, maybe. 2021 Me: That shirt. It’s from 2009. It was a prototype of the Columbia Omni-Heat. The first of its game changing Black Dot technology. I remember back in September 2009 when Peter came home from Las Lenas, Argentina, from testing the new minted Columbia Sportswear Omni Heat technology. Peter was on fire about this break through in technology that was going to change skiing and life in the mountains. Technology that would allow us to stay outside, at altitude, in inclement weather longer and remain warm with breathability and moisture wicking properties. It seemed too good to be true. It also looked fabulous when you flipped it over and wore it inside out for apres or late night pisco sours in the disco. Also, too good to be true. But yet, here we are in 2021. And it’s still rocking.
New to the backcountry? Spend a day with one of our ACMG guides and you'll learn decision making and line choices that would otherwise take you years. Hire a private guide with your friends, or join a group and meet some new backcountry pals. : @smith_irie
Another weekend, another line you didn't ski that's been on your list for years? It's not too late to spend a day with a pro and finally knock it off. Give us a call, we're here to help. Name that entrance...have you ski'd it?... : @frederiquejoncas
