The recent shootings of Asian women (along with two others) in Atlanta has once again brought attention to the devasting impact of hate and discrimination. Racist attacks against Asians have been an ongoing problem but it has become much worse during the pandemic. A CTV article reveals that rates of hate crimes directed at Asians have increased by as much as 700% in the past year. These statistics are very disturbing. We want our Asian colleagues and the Asian families we work with to know that we will speak up against racism and discrimination. We will support them when they are attacked or discriminated against and are committed to working against all incidents of hate, racism and discrimination. Karen Spencer Executive Director

Did you know Kinship is not exclusive to a biological family connection? It can also include someone who is close to the child or their family like a teacher, godparent, coach or neighbour #KinWeek2020

Today marks the beginning of Kinship Awareness Week. Thank you to all the Kin families for the amazing work you do.

This additional funding will help to ensure that Black children in care will be better connected to their communities. It also highlights the importance of working to ensure Black children are placed in Black homes when possible.
