Fallen Mouse Forge 27.04.2021

1lb carving axe on hickory with walnut palm swells and wedge. Pretty thrilled with how the handle turned out on this one. Not so much the head. - It's a fair bit longer than I set out to make it, and as such, is a little unbalanced in use. I haven't given it a really good test run yet, but I think I'll hold off on handling the second one I made, and will start fresh on a stubbier, wider head. - But I really do love that handle. Feels great, looks great. Thanks for the inspira...tion @theaxeandedgetoolco! - - - #handforged #blacksmithing #axe #axeporn #axemaking #woodworking #toolmaking #madeinnovascotia #fallenmouseforge See more

A little wall sconce candle holder that I made for a Christmas present

Fallen Mouse Forge 28.03.2021

Candle holder inspired by a design I saw online, and a candle snuffer to go along with it to be shipped of to a friend. These were a lot of fun to make, and I'm really happy with the clear coat finish. Definitely going to use that more in the future. - - - #handforged #blacksmithing #candleholder #candle #candlesnuffer #madeinnovascotia #fallenmouseforge

A couple little camp hatchets I made for gifts this Christmas. - Made with an asymmetrical weld for the eye, and a spring steel cutting edge. - I was originally going to make two different sizes, but the proportions were pretty good on the smaller one so I trimmed an inch off the larger one at some stage along the way.... - #handforged #blacksmithing #blacksmithingtools #toolmaking #toolstomaketools #forge #axe #hatchet #madeinnovascotia #fallenmouseforge See more

Super pleased with how this little broad axe turned out! This is my first axe, made from 8" of 5/8"x1.5" mild steel, with a leaf spring insert for the cutting edge and beard. - Definitely learned a few things along the way, and will do a few things different next time around, but overall, I'm super stoked on how it looks and feels. - -... - #handforged #blacksmithing #blacksmithingtools #toolmaking #toolstomaketools #forge #axe #broadaxe #axemaking #madeinnovascotia #fallenmouseforge See more

This little guy may not look like much to the untrained eye, but it represents a LOT of hammer blows. This humble little axe eye drift started life as 4" or so of 2" round 4140, and took something like 10 hours (often shared with other projects, hammering on one while the other heated up) of work to get it to its current state. - In the end, it's a little bit shorter than I'd have liked, both in the handle, and the body of the drift, but there's absolutely no way I'm going to... start over with more material. - I think I'll buy the next one! I hope the 4140 holds up under use. I know I'd be better off with something like H13, but it's pretty hard to come by in these parts, and I couldn't even imagine drawing that out by hand... - - - #handforged #blacksmithing #blacksmithingtools #toolmaking #toolstomaketools #forge #axe #axemaking #axeeyedrift #drift #madeinnovascotia #fallenmouseforge See more

Adventures in forge welding! I have a few bigger projects on the go, but thought I would take a night and just practice some basics. I haven't done a whole lot of forge welding, so I thought it was about time to make some chain. Some of the welds aren't the prettiest, but they're all good and solid. Links are made from 6" of 3/8" round bar.... - - - #handforged #blacksmithing #chainmaking #forge #forgewelding #fallenmouseforge See more
