There are more than 8,000 grape varieties from about 60 species.... It takes about 2.5 pounds of grapes to make one bottle of wine. Today is a perfect day to eat some Watermelon! Open until 1pm! All varieties of watermelon share a distinct mouth watering, thirst quenching, sugary flesh encased by a solid rind. Some watermelon types have higher sugar content and are sweeter; and some varieties have different colored rind and flesh. Most of us are familiar with the oblong, dark green watermelon with vibrant ruby red pulp. Melons may also be light pink, yellow and even orange. Size can vary from small five ...pounders to a monstrous 200 pounds. How is it Grown? Watermelons grow above ground on a vine, much like pumpkins do. They require a lot of space and can choke out other plants so they must be planted in their own area. The time it takes for a watermelon to mature can be anywhere from 65 to 90 days after planting. Once the fruit sets to tiny marble-sized melons, it only takes up to 45 days for those tiny melons to develop into watermelons of 10 pounds or more in size. What to Look for A watermelon, big or small, should feel heavy for its size. Where the melon has been on the ground will be a lighter colour and if this spot is a creamy yellowish white it is ripe. A good ripe melon will sound hollow when tapped or knocked on. What to Avoid Melons that are not ripe will have no light spot but be green and stripped all the way around. If it does not sound hollow, it is not ready yet. Avoid melons that are bruised, split or have soft spots.

So glad you enjoyed your time at the Cambridge Farmers Market #repost @dina.pugliese The Cambridge Farmers’ Market was abuzz yesterday. Sun was shining. Socially distant lines were formed. And delicious locally harvested fruits and veggies and baked goods were ready for eating. Everything tastes so much more delicious in the summertime when food is picked at it’s peak. Aleks and I washed and ate everything as they tend to spoil quickly too. Picked super fresh and oh so delicious. Luckily the rain held off. Hope you’re staying dry friends, playing board games or reading a good book. #Cambridge #FarmersMarket #SupportLocal #Staycation #ExploringLocally #FarmFresh #Saturdays @ Cambridge Farmers' Market

Corn season has arrived! Wow you friends and family with some fun corn facts! On average an ear of corn has 800 kernels in 16 rows.... Corn will always have an even number of rows on each cob. An ear or cob of corn is actually part of the flower and an individual kernel is a seed. Open until 1pm today, come out and enjoy

FREE PORCH DROP/DELIVERY IN WATERLOO/WELLINGTON (OF SANITIZED JARS AND BOTTLES), CONTACTLESS PAYMENT & OF COURSE OUR SIGNATURE AMAZING FLAVOURS!!! Please do fe...el free to peruse and send your orders by msg on here or by email to [email protected] or call/text 519-574-9811 As we are unable to do our "Pop Up" Farmers' Market Stalls we are now focusing on getting our customers our wares direct and our weekly Sunday delivering has been working very well in the last two weeks, please do consider getting on board! All of our products use locally sourced ingredients and are made in small batches in a commercial kitchen in Elmira and we are a Drayton based, local family owned business in operation since 2016. We also offer incentives to those who return their containers. Each post we try to showcase a new product and have a brief description and photos of it. We are happy to provide a tasting note for any of our products so please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like advice or guidance. We also have loads of testimonials on our website www.kellsons.ca We’ve decided to go back to back Tomato Driven Sauces here as we are firstly of course, very lucky to have access to amazing quality Elmira’s Own Tomatoes 12 months a year around the corner from our house, we are also very blessed with having so many different global styles and inspirations for us to draw on to add complexities and style to our sauces and condiments. So if you look at it that way, the previous Roasted Tomato Sauce was largely influenced by a Southern Italian style, this Tomato Pickle or Pachadi Recipe is VERY Southern Indian! Of course through sampling and tinkering as well as upon consultation with our Loyal Foodie Armies’ Palates, we have been able to put our own Unique Kellsons spin on it : ) This is again a finishing Sauce or Condiment and we love it for many reasons, the most important being, this is a very Turmeric Heavy offering and this combined with the essential toasting of Mustard/Cumin/Coriander spice mix then zapping them in the grinder to form a beautiful brown dust, when sauteed with the Tomatoes makes for really nice absorption, and creates a crazy complex flavour profile! Also we love this style of sauce as it is done with a local technique called tempering, this essentially means you make your sauteed sauce in one pot and then in a second cast iron skillet you heat high quality Olive Oil, spices and a SERIOUS amount of smashed whole Garlic cloves, allowing for us to really drill in the intensity of the flavour. This is a Tangy, Hot, Sour, Garlic and Toasted Spicy Express Kellsons Express Flavour Train Ride!

I get it that things are different than they were a week or two ago. I miss our amazing staff members who are really more like family, anyone who shops at the s...tore knows our amazing camaraderie. I miss seeing our customers and hearing their squeals of delight at their first time inside our store or smelling new scents. Closing our doors to the public is one of the hardest things I have ever done but I love our staff and customers and want to keep everyone safe and healthy. Businesses like ours put literal blood, sweat and tears into their business, along with every single piece of our hearts and soul. I have had a few days of late where my soul has been shaken to its core and tears have been shed, for ourselves, and our other small business friends. 1. We are trying hard to adapt as fast as we can to still offer the same products that you are used to in our store. That said some things are being packaged differently. 2. We need your patience as we add items to the website. Most key items have been added, however, we will be adding items for at least another week. I am but one person at the moment finishing the website during the times I don’t have normal household family things and when we are not preparing the orders that have come in. I am a parent too, just like most of you. 3. Please respect that store door pickups does not = store shopping. We are closed to the public. We will meet you at the door wearing our PPE to hand your order to you. 4. Please respect that even on the days we are at the store, we cannot open the doors to the public. The hardest thing any business owner, myself included wants is to lock the doors to our customers. It breaks our hearts immensely and I have had several moments of despair over it. But please do not ask us to come into the store just because we are there. We do not have any of the equipment left at the store to do transactions - tablet, debit/cc machines and cash drawer has all been removed. 5. We have sanitized every single product and surface in the store over the last few days and having one person in the store to shop would erase that. We discovered that Lysol and alcohol wipes can do some funky things to our labels and we have redone a lot of our labels. We are keeping it safe for ourselves and for our other customers who are ordering online. 6. Please help small businesses during this time if you are able to. We are worried about so many of our friends and their businesses right now. Small businesses are the people you know, they employ the people you know and they are the first ones to sponsor teams or groups, they are the first ones to give donations for non profit events that help others in your community. Orders, gift certificates to be redeemed at a later date and even just an encouraging word can go a long way. Give them the love you can. Above all, be safe & healthy and be nice to one another, especially during this time when everyone is a little more stressed.

Cambridge Farmers' Market 24.11.2019

For years we’ve attended farmers’ markets throughout Southwestern Ontario. Unfortunately, many markets are now closed or delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. W...e understand these decisions and want to do everything we can to keep our communities safe. But, we also believe providing fresh, local food is more important now than ever. Our solution is a no-contact market box delivered to your door. We’re starting with the month of May, and we’re focusing on the communities we would normally serve at farmers’ markets. Check out the map for an idea of that area. We’ll have limited quantities availablefirst come, first served. Each week, you’ll get one market box full of fresh produce valued at $50. That means you’ll get four boxes a month. We’re asking for up-front payments of $175 for the monthshipping is free. Market boxes will contain a selection of produce each week depending on availability. We’ve always been proud to say that we only sell what we grow, so our own asparagus, rhubarb, kale, and green garlic will be our primary items. However, given that our offerings are limited to those items during May, we’re temporarily including a few additional items from neighbouring farms. These will include sweet potatoes, herbs, and greenhouse cucumber, lettuce, peppers, and tomatoes. You can add our melon blossom honey and other preserves to your market box for a one-time additional cost. If you choose to add these items, they will be delivered once, in the second box. Delivery for subsequent months will be announced later stay tuned! Thank you so much for your continued support & encouragement.
