November 11, 2020 - Covid-19 Update/Summary Dear Residents and Family Members, A resident from our retirement home was sent to hospital for non-covid matter on October 27, 2020. ... While at hospital, this resident tested positive for covid-19. Our home was made aware of the positive covid-19 result on the evening of October 29, 2020 and the home immediately implemented our covid-19 pandemic plan. Our home went into a covid-19 outbreak status on October 30, 2020 as per Lambton Public Health. As the resident who was positive has not been in the home since October 27, and as all staff and residents are negative for covid-19, we are officially out of isolation as of November 11, 2020. ** Covid-19 testing remains mandatory for all staff and visitors** We will be resuming services as they were previous to October 30, 2020. 1. General visits (x1visitor in residents room, or x2 visitors in main lounge) are open for booking (booking is required) [email protected] or 519-882-0370 2. Non-essential services are resumed 3. Residents may leave the home for social or medical reasons booking is required [email protected] or 519-882-0370 4. Essential visitors (Under the caregiver delegation) may continue with visits as per predetermined schedule and plan for visits that were submitted to the Administrator and/or DOC - booking is preferred [email protected] or 519-882-0370 The appointment scheduler is available to assist with booking visits Monday to Friday 8-4. All visits, including weekend/evening outings must be booked with visit scheduler by Friday at 2:00. Please do not call the unit managers to arrange visits and/or outings. General visits that are not scheduled, will be unable to be accommodated at this time. Due to Provincial standards of 10 people allowed together, we will be limiting the # of visitors in one unit at a time. As such, the appointment scheduler may suggest an alternate time for your visit. As always, the Home is committed to the safety of all residents and staff and will continue to update with any information changes. COvid-19 Outbreak October 30 2020 Dear Residents and Family Members,... As you may have heard, a case of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been identified at our home. Rest assured that we have taken swift action to halt the spread of the virus through rigorous infection management practices and procedures. We are working in close partnership with our public health unit to ensure every possible step is taken to protect our residents. The health and safety of our residents, and the team members who serve them, is our highest priority. Our home is experienced in managing respiratory illnesses and the resident with COVID-19 is in isolation. We have also isolated the other residents on the floor as appropriate and have assigned dedicated staff who are only working in that area. We know isolation can be very hard on our residents and we are focused on providing them with the best possible care during this difficult time. Our staff are going above and beyond to ensure our residents’ well-being. We thank you for your understanding during this time and assure you that we are continuing to make decisions in the best interest of our residents and team members to ensure their health and safety, first and foremost. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at the contact information below. Sincerely, Mandy Judah RN DRC [email protected] O

A public announcement to our residents, families, staff and community: A recent newspaper article has been posted in the Petrolia Independant dated Thursday September 17th that we not only want you to be aware of, but also would like to respond to without breaching confidentiality. We would like to address that yes, the Home has received complaints from a residents family member, that it did result in a Ministry inspection, and that there were 4 findings as a result of the in...vestigation. In the late part of July, the Home initiated immediate investigation into a large document that was received by a residents family member containing many allegations against the staff of our Home and the care of a resident. As a result, the Home immediately investigated, reported to the Ministry and replied to the concerns of the family member. The Ministry did send inspectors, who attended the home for 5 days reviewing the history of complaints and responses between the family member of a resident and the Home. The Home was faulted for improperly addressing a verbal statement surrounding toileting. As such, it breached 3 areas surrounding abuse and neglect: 1. The staff did not report the incident immediately. 2. The director did not receive a report. 3. The abuse and neglect policy was not followed and requires an ammendment. We would like to note that voluntary corrective action has been taken to ensure that a situation of this nature does not occur again and that the residents dignity, choice and care is respected by staff. There is zero tolerance for abuse and neglect, as such our staff receive training on hire, annually and with any changes in the policy. We would also like to address the concern surrounding visitors without covid-19 testing which was the 4th finding from the Ministry. We do stand by our decisions in the management of covid-19 thus far, and continue to follow the guidelines by the Ministry as new processes and rules come about frequently. We will continue to update families, residents and staff as new policies are developed. As a team we value transparency, putting the residents first and ensuring the safety and well-being of all we care for. As always, our management team supports an "open door" policy and will respond to concerns, questions and comments to the best of our ability. Take care Mike Fiddick - Administrator/Owner/Operator Mandy Judah - Registered Nurse/Director of Care

Dear Residents, Families, Team Members & Friends, Summer is upon us and as much as we wish life could return to normal, we are far from that place at this time. We have just entered stage 3 in Sarnia Lambton as means to get the economy back on its feet, some normalcy to life and to move a little forward. With stage 3 comes many challenges that must be focused on in keeping our residents healthy and safe. There has been little progress in the scientific movement toward a vac...cine for Covid19. We have done such an incredible job as a community adhering to safety protocols. Within our facility the highest safety precautions have been put in place and maintained for the well-being and safety of our residents, team members and our community as a whole. As you are aware, when visits were opened up we set in place a procedure to keep our residents safe and comfortable. Requiring a recent Covid 19 test as part of the safety measures was and is part of our protocol. As I completely understand how inconvenient this may be to some, it is absolutely necessary in keeping your loved one safe. We have received criticism in these procedures and it is disheartening at times as our reason in doing this is to keep our residents healthy, safe & happy. In the present climate of horrendous conditions of Nursing and Retirement facilities being found and highlighted during this very difficult time, some may find it easy to paint every facility with the same brush or in farmer’s terms, one bad apple.... That is not the case in many Nursing and Retirement facilities, we at Fiddicks Nursing and Retirement home strive each and every day to surpass your expectations in us. I am grateful for your compassion and patience in this very difficult time. You can rest assured that as always safety in our facility is our top priority. Our team members are called upon in these difficult times to maintain their small bubbles, have regular testing and show up each and every shift with the purpose to make our residents life better. I thank you for your ongoing support and patience with us in this unprecedented time. I am grateful for the words of encouragement, for our hardworking and devoted team members, to our wonderful residents and their families. May we continue to move forward together; communicating, supporting and caring for one another. Please continue to social distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, keep your bubble small and continue to get your Covid 19 tests, to keep our residents and team members safe. I am available every hour of the day if you would like to speak with me. Humbly Yours, Mike Fiddick Owner/Administrator Fiddicks Nursing Home Ltd.
