Hi Church Family and Friends, It is great to be able to get away on summer holidays and it is equally great to be back refreshed and ready for the new ministry season that is ahead for us. With what is ahead in mind, the big announcement for today is that First Baptist Church will be reopening it's doors for our first Worship Service - Sunday September 6, 2020. @ 10:30 am. This will be an opportunity for all of us in the FBC community to come together in worship and to ce...lebrate the Lord's Table. We will be sending out more details about this service soon and what changes you can expect as a result of the Health Units guidelines regarding public meetings. I am excited about the possibility of what lays ahead for us as a community as we begin afresh our ministry together. It really is a time of new beginnings. For the next four weeks in preparation for our restart, I will be sharing a short series of messages online called Between Times, from Luke 23:50 - 24:53. Once we have begun meeting together again I will be sharing a series of messages from Acts 1 - 6, entitled New Beginnings. Our Monday Coffee and Conversation group and our Wednesday afternoon Bible study group will start back meeting at the church on September 7, 10:30-11:30 am, and September 9, 2:00-3:30 pm respectively. My message today is a brief reflection on the Defining Moments in our lives as we look at how the death and resurrection of Jesus impacted on the life of Joseph of Arimathea, Mary Magdalene, and Simon Peter. Hi Church Family and Friends, In these uncertain and difficult days, it is so easy to be overwhelmed by the challenges we are facing all around us - the covid-19 pandemic; social unrest related to racism and the polarization of political ideology; the precarious economic climate. To say these are troubling times is an understatement. Many questions come to our minds as we face these challenges. Where are we going as a society, country, world? How do we know which way ...we should go and what is the right thing to do? Who do we trust to help us navigate through these turbulent and dangerous times? Today in my Table Talk message from John 14:1-21, Jesus has for us a very timely, encouraging and calming word, "Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." With this empowering statement Jesus reminds his disciples and us that we are not powerless when it comes to facing uncertain and difficult times. We have the ability to choose not to give into the confusion, disempowerment and fear that is consuming so many around us. Jesus encourages not to let our hearts be troubled, instead we can choose to keep believing in God and believing in him. In these days of confusion and disorientation Jesus is our compass - our true North - he is the one to fix our eyes on so that we can stay the course and find our way through the darkness to our heavenly Father's house. We can trust Jesus with where things are going; the road to take to get there; and who is with us on the journey! These days we need all the encouragement we can get to keep our focus in the right place. I am thankful for friends who the Lord uses to assist and inspire us along the way. One such friend of mine is John Collins, a musician and songwriter who this past week released one of his new worship songs - These are the days - a song that invites a response. It is a call to repentance and worship that moves a generation towards Jesus. I would encourage you to listen to this link: https://youtu.be/Iaj8k8rmFLg (after listening to the message - of course) and be blessed! Blessings and peace, Rev. Hi Church Family and Friends, Today is the last message in our series from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do, especially in uncertain and difficult times. For the Apostle Paul the uncertainty of what would happen to him in the future motivated him to leave a personal word of encouragement, hope, blessing and challenge with his friends in the church of Philippi. During these uncertain days of covid -19, as we too are facing...Continue reading

Hi Church Family and Friends, Today is Father's Day. A time to honour the men who have made a significant contribution to our lives. When I think of my Dad, I thank God for the way that he has always been there for me, encouraging me, teaching me so many life skills and sharing with me his wisdom and knowledge. He has been an example to me of steadfast endurance and faith in the midst of tremendous hardships and struggles - when I went through my own struggles - he was... my anchor keeping me attached and securely grounded. He has always been my home to return to; my source of wisdom and strength; his strong arms, my place of safety. When I think of my Dad, I completely get why Jesus used the example of a Father with his sons to teach one of his most touching, moving and inspiring parables, the story of the lost son. This story from Luke 15 speaks to me on many levels as a son, a brother and as a Father. It is my prayer today that as you listen to the message you will be able to find yourself in this story and hear the Spirit of God speaking to your heart. I also understand that for some Father's Day does not bring to mind good memories of your Father. My prayer for you today is that you would also find yourself in Jesus' story, loved unconditionally and graciously by your heavenly Father. To all Father's and Grandfather's I wish you all a very Happy and blessed Father's Day. Blessings and peace, Rev. Ken Wiles Pastor, FBC Perth https://youtu.be/Hh9hnLkkKMI

Hi Church Friends and Family, As some of you may have heard the Ontario Government has given Churches the go ahead to reopen their buildings for Worship services (at 30% seating capacity) as of June 12th. This is great news for the Church in general across our Province as it means that Churches now have the choice to resume worship as their specific ministry situations dictate following Covid-19 start up protocols. This week after the announcement was made the L...eadership Team (Deacons and BOM) met and discussed our readiness as a Church to return to weekly worship services. The Start up Committee reported that a plan is nearing completion and some steps have been taken to prepare the building for our restart. After much thoughtful discussion it was decided unanimously by the Leadership Team to delay the reopening of First Baptist Church - Perth, till "the end of August" for the following reasons: - Since FBC's membership is primarily made up of Seniors (who are in the most vulnerable category) it was felt that we delay reopening until the threat of Covid-19 transmission has been greatly reduced. - Although the Start up committee has a partial plan, we do not yet have all the guidelines in for a safe restart. - Pastor Ken will be going on his scheduled holidays (July 6th to Aug 3). It was felt that the start up should not happen until after his return from holidays - The Leadership Team will meet August 6th to assess our readiness to begin services and set possible dates for the reopening of FBC for worship and other activities and groups. As your Pastor I am aware of the desire on the part of many that we would get back to normal as soon as is safely possible. In making the choice to open later than sooner the Leadership Team has chosen to put the health and well-being of the entire FBC Family ahead of any other considerations. Please continue to pray for God's wisdom and guidance for the Leadership Team and Restart committee as they prepare us for our reopening in August. My message today is Maturing Joyfully - part 2 A completion of Paul's seven marks of a mature Christian - focusing on the joy of compassionate, generous and sacrificial giving from Philippians 4:14-20. https://youtu.be/XcRplZL5g-s Blessings and peace, Rev.
