It’s been a while since we have posted on Facebook, but we thought now would be a good time to inform people of the new fishing regulations for area 13 (Campbell River). Chinook salmon are currently catch and release only (non-retention) until July 15. This non-retention regulation of Chinook salmon isn’t a reflection of our local Chinook fishery or an indicator of the health of our local Chinook stocks. The Chinook sport fishing is incredible out there right now and has bee...n throughout the winter months, which is our best indicator of local Chinook populations. This Chinook non-retention regulation by DFO was strictly a political move. Because of the last-minute non-retention Chinook regulation announced by DFO, we have decided to move our sport-fishing operation to Gold River, BC. Gold River is just over a one-hour scenic drive west from Campbell River. This is all highway driving (no gravel logging roads) We will be operating out of Gold River for May, June and the first two weeks of July until area 13 opens again for Chinook retention. There are about 4 different land-based options for accommodations in the town of Gold River. Nootka Sound (Gold River) offers beautiful scenery, an abundance of wildlife, and spectacular early season fishing for Chinook, Halibut, Ling Cod and Coho. Early season is my favorite time in Gold River (Nootka Sound) before all the crowds show up in July and August. Chinook salmon daily limits are 2 Chinook per day, 4 in total possession. Coho limits are two (Hatchery marked) per day 4 in total possession Starting June 01. Halibut limits are one per day with a maximum size of 126 cm head-on length. And a total possession limit of two if both are under 90 cm. Ling cod limits are 2 per day 4 total possession limit. All of our Gold River salmon and bottom fish adventures will be day trips only!! 10 hrs dock to dock time!! GOT MY OLDEST SON OUT ON A CHARTER WITH ME!! HE OPERATED THE DOWNRIGGERS AND HELPED OPERATE THE BOAT!! AND SLEPT IN THE FRONT BOW. STILL LOT'S OF SPRINGS COMING IN!! THIS SEASON HAS BEEN AWESOME.
