Sweet new @repyourwater hats arrived today!

Fish Tales Fly Shop 23.05.2021

Some days you need smaller streamers that run deep. This simple jig fly can be tied in tiny sizes and sinks fast. Since it rides hook up you tend to get a few less snags while maintaining some contact with the bottom. It might even be the ticket when deployed with a euronymph rig. Numerous flies can be tied from a single MFC mini barred maribou feather, a little bit of flash and some polar dub. Check out the feathers and polar dub at the shop and you can see how many variants are possible. #fishtalesflyshop #fishtales #shopties #flyfishing #flytying #flytietuesday #bowriver #alberta #streamer #jig

Another more significant win today!! There is no question this government is feeling the pressure on this issue and further backed off what should not have started in the first place. Yes there was some politicking in the announcement but at least some of the imminent damage from exploration on Cat 2 lands has been temporarily avoided. Thank you minister Savage for finally listening. Please stay engaged in this issue. As the consultation committee announces how when where and... what the next steps are we need to make sure the message continues to be clear regarding what we think coal development (or non development) should look like. As was mentioned in the announcement this is our chance to formulate a policy that could stand the test of time just like the 1976 one did for generations. Watch the full announcement and judge for yourself. David https://youtu.be/fE45GEzKi6A

What small changes have you made to be gentler to the Earth? This Earth day blog shares some of the ways we are making small changes in the store (and at home for @davefishtales and @nstorwick.) Little changes can make big impacts over time.

The start of the long awaited public consultation. A survey first then an advisory committee that will engage based on feedback in the survey. We encourage everyone to participate in this survey then in whatever form this takes after the fact. Let them know what you want!

Very glad to see this very important Bob Weber article getting some traction in various media outlets. This is the crux of the problem with the ongoing exploration. Be prepared to add your voice to the consultation process next week. There is still no word on what that is going to look like but there will be an immediate update once the framework has been set. It’s Fly Tie Tuesday. Hopefully you’re getting some time to relax and tie a few flies this holiday. We thought we would tie something new and flashy for the New Year. Here is the Shimmer-Swimmer (say that 10 times quickly :) tied in sculpin olive/gold and black/gold with Hareline’s shimmer fur. This new shimmer rabbit from Hareline has us all tying new and old patterns with a twist - it’s beautiful stuff. This is a quick tie, looks great and swims well. Happy New Year from all of us at Fish Tales Fly Shop. #fishtalesflyshop #fishtales #shopties #flyfishing #flytying #flytietuesday #bowriver #alberta #ahrex #hareline #shimmer #streamer #articulated

Most year’s at this time we would be hosting a group at Christmas Island right about now. This year we had to hit pause on that trip, but we know folks will want to resume their fly fishing adventures abroad once travel restrictions ease up. With that in mind we’ve put together a list of Ten things for the Traveling Fly Fisher - a great starting place for gifts for the adventure angler in your life this Christmas season.

Sometimes it just takes one new material to spark some fly tying. Most of the time it means tying something slightly different with a trusted pattern. This one we call the Laser Tag Midge. Pretty simple variation on the Griffith’s Gnat, a trusted fly all year round, and a hot fly last week. The tag is meant to add some enhancement that mimics reflection of a midge’s busy wings. For an even flashier version, skip the peacock entirely and wrap the tinsel over the entire body. A great fly for beginners who want to get behind the fly tying vise. #fishtalesflyshop #fishtales #shopties #flyfishing #flytying #flytietuesday #bowriver #alberta #midge #gnat #dryfly

It’s Fly Tie Tuesday! Apparently we have a rockin’ streamer today with Matt’s Diver Down. This heavy streamer uses a large Fish-Skull Sculpin Helmet to get down fast. Can be tied in numerous colours and sizes with various combinations and colours of similar materials. Rock on! \m/ >_< \m/ #fishtalesflyshop #fishtales #shopties #flyfishing #flytying #flytietuesday #bowriver #streamer #fishskull #articulated #sculpin #alberta @mattchat12 ... In October 2019 we started posting weekly Fly Tie Tuesday featured flies to our social media feeds. These posts feature an image (or two) of a finished fly and the ingredients list for the finished pattern. See more
