Foal Foundation training is something we take seriously at Fleetwood. Here, Fleetwood Intern Tianna Johnson handles the 2020 silver bay colt that belongs to Jo...el Lybbert. We believe that our foals are better set up for success if they go with a complete foundation in the halter and a general habituation to positive interactions with people. Here you can see Tianna uses three things to reinforce the forward motion this colt has learned; light forward pressure with the halter shank, clucking (which means to move, direction determined by the halter and shank) and if necessary, the arm extension (the whip) in her right hand. Eventually, the youngsters come to the place where the arm extension is no longer necessary as the proofing (consistent reinforcement) has done it’s job, and we replace where the left hand currently is with the right hand. All of this is included in the p u r c h a s e p r i c e of every foal we raise. When is it your turn for a Fleetwood foal?
