Today marks 5 years since the fire! We have seen Fort McMurray come through so many challenges including last year's flood! Fort McMurray, we are STRONG, and living in this community is like no other...We never stop supporting and caring for one another as that IS what our community is made of!!

Dear Residents of the Wood Buffalo region, #LoveLettersYMM We are in mid-week of the anniversaries from our historic disasters of the 2016 Wildfire and the 2...020 Spring Flood. Though we’ve endured a lot of heartache and struggle in these times. I reflect on the beautiful things created through our shared pain. One is meeting the INCREDIBLE people behind the Stars of HOPE organization. I will never forget them coming to our community to help us cope by painting stars with words of encouragement. I’ve made lifelong friendships with the organizers and they continue to lift my spirits to this day. My daughter and I painted this one. STRONG is a word I use to describe our community! Yesterday & today marks 1 year since the flood. Needless to say, it has been a difficult year! We have spent this past year repairing the damage done at the Shipyard and cleaning up the Village. Tonight’s Festival of Trees was very 2020 but none-the-less amazing. Thanks to all the partners who stepped up to support health care in our region in this uniq...ue virtual gala format. Incredible work by the NLHF staff and volunteers. Fun to also dress up and wear some heels (and the classic Festival mint green coat). Was proud to work with Tammy Davidson Plowman, Fort McMurray Heritage Society, Jeff and the team at Casman for partnering and my amazing Balsom team for another Tree submission! See more
