Meet Tomke Sigurdson, a key member of our team at @tenspa. Tomke was an apprenticeship student in a hotel management program in Germany and in 2009, moved to Banff on a work visa. While there, she worked at Rocky Mountain Resort and the Fox Hotel, quickly moving into supervisory roles in both places. After her work visa expired, Tomke went back home to Germany, but in just a few months, realized that her place was back in Canada largely because she’d met a man from Winnipeg... while in Banff and they realized they were meant to be together! Tomke and her husband moved to Winnipeg in 2012 and just a few months later, Ten Spa was lucky enough to have her join the team. Her first day was February 15, 2012 she just missed having her first day on Valentine’s Day! Tomke loves that she is working in a place that is a haven for people to rest, relax and de-stress in, which is even more important these days. She also loves that Fort Garry Hotel reminds her of the hotel in the show Girlfriends she watched as a teenager. That show was her inspiration to work in hotels. Tomke is married and is a mom to two young daughters. She loves to go biking, rollerblading and tending to her herb garden in the summer. While she appreciates that all those things are still possible, she really misses her family back in Germany. With restrictions in place, she hasn’t been able to see them in over 2 years and that is the first thing she is going to do when our world opens up again. #friendlyfacesofthefortgarryhotel #meettheteam #tenspa #fgh
