Many of you have likely dealt with Matt here at the shop, whether it was on rides, having him assemble your bike, or bike rack, or on our group rides. Matt has moved on and found a new job in his engineering field, and recently had a chance to write an article for NSMB and we think that’s pretty neat! It’s a quick little read that may give some of us new perspectives on things. Check it out here: https://nsmb.com/articles/coming-out-ride/... Thanks, Matt!

What would a week of lockdown be without an update on regulations!?!? Ontario has updated their regulations for retail establishments during this lockdown, which means we need to share some of these updates with you. Curbside pickup ONLY. We are no longer allowed to offer curbside service for walk up customers. You MUST email or phone prior to have products prepaid for, or set aside for you. ... With the latest lockdown our phones are seeing an ENORMOUS volume of calls. While we aren’t able to pickup the phone to every individual who calls, we are answering ALL of the voicemails that are left for us. We are HIGHLY encouraging folks to send us an email instead of calling as it’s easier for us to keep in contact with you that way. You will still be able to pay for you repair or prepicked items at the front door of the store as long as they have been set aside prior to arriving at the business premises. Unfortunately this means no bike sizing at this time. We know this only adds another layer of complexity to the mix, but we simply want to do our best to keep everyone safe (and avoiding fines is a nice bonus too!) Thank you all for you continued support, and patience as we navigate all of this.

Well, it’s a new week, so there’s a new lockdown! For those of you who remember last April, you know what’s going on here. For those of you who don’t, welcome to April 2020 V2! As per the latest announcement we will remain open BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. ... Our hours of operation will continue to be: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday - 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Thursday, Friday - 10:00 am - 7:00 pm Our operating procedures are as follows: Products can be purchased over the phone with payment via credit card, or by email with payment by E-transfer. Orders which have been pre picked over the phone, or by credit card can also be paid at the debit terminal at the front door We have our inventory on our website now! You can see what’s in stock online prior to phoning and emailing! There is still a BIG shortage on bicycles and parts, so checking prior to calling can be helpful. Repair dropoff can be made in the back parking lot. Simply ring the bell in the centre of the back wall, and someone will be out to assist you as soon as possible. We will collect some contact information along with your bicycle and contact you after a full assessment unless you have given pre approval. Curbside pickup can be made at the back door by ringing the doorbell as listed above. For the safety of our customers and staff please wear your mask when interacting with our staff outdoors. As service will be accepting bicycles as of April 8, 2021 it is likely to be very busy for repair dropoffs. Please keep this in mind. We will be working to assist everyone as quickly as possible. A reminder that we only have one phone line. If you call during our store hours and get our voicemail, it is likely that we are already on the phone and therefore can’t answer. If you leave us a message, we will get back to you as soon as possible. We DO respond to every voicemail! Thanks!

For Saturday, December 19, 2020 it will be business as usual. Well, the December usual. As of Monday, December 21, 2020 Hamilton will enter a state of lockdown which will bring on significant changes for us at Freewheel Cycle. If you remember March at Freewheel Cycle, this will sound familiar. As of Monday there will no longer be any indoor shopping You can order items by email or over the phone for curbside pickup. If this is anything like March, the phone is going to be... busy quite often, so please be patient with us as we do our best to keep up with the potential volume of calls and emails. Orders can be paid by credit card over the phone, or by Interac E-Transfer to [email protected] As no customers will be allowed in the store, we will return to offering service dropoff at the back door by ringing the doorbell. When an available service tech comes to help you, they will collect your contact information so we can discuss all necessary repairs after an assessment. We will update further if anything changes in the New Year. We are still operating 10:00am - 5:00pm Tuesday - Saturday. Just a reminder our holiday hours are as follows: December 24: 10:00am - 4:00pm December 25: Closed December 26: Closed December 31: 10:00am - 4:00pm January 1: Closed January 2: Closed Thank you again for your continued support and patience with us as we navigate these ever changing times. #shoplocal #supportlocal #HamOnt #staysafe

Sweet sassy molassy has it been a roller coaster of a couple days! As you have heard, one of our staff recently had a positive COVID-19 test. While their symptoms were mild, this staffer immediately isolated themselves; their last day at work was September 23rd. Due to current high demand, it took them 5 days to get a test and 5 days to get the results which were immediately reported to us. We immediately closed the store, all staff were informed and sent home to isolate as ...per the instructions received in our phone call from public health. On Saturday, October 3rd, and Sunday, October 4th, we had follow up phone calls from public health. We were asked more in depth questions about our in-store protocols, including mask wearing and hand sanitizing stations, and utilization of our spacious floor plan to spread out workers. With this additional information Public Health has deemed all of the staff contact with the positive co-worker to be casual and all have been released from quarantine. All staff will continue to self monitor and we will do a full cleaning of the store before reopening. Anyone who has visited us during this pandemic has witnessed our commitment to the safety of our staff and customers. Heck, we required masks before they were cool. And we ask all customers to sanitize their hands upon entry and staff are required to wear masks even after hours. Because of our adherence to precautions and the immediate actions of the unfortunate employee, we were able to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus at Freewheel Cycle. None of our other staff are exhibiting symptoms. While the guidelines from Public Health state we are allowed to reopen as normal on Tuesday, we will be remaining closed until Thursday, October 8, 2020 so that we can take some extra time to do a thorough cleaning of the store. We would like to thank our customers for following both the protocols of Public Health, and our in store protocols as well as staying home if they feel unwell, and likewise to our amazing staff. Stay safe, and be well. We look forward to seeing you again on Thursday! The Freewheel Cycle Team

Dear Freewheel Customers: We have just learned that one of our employees tested positive for COVID-19. This employee has not worked since September 23rd. To be safe, we have decided to close the store temporarily to comply with COVID isolation measures. We will reopen as soon as we have a clear go-ahead from health authorities, putting staff and customer safety first. If you have any symptoms please isolate and call the public health line for instructions. We are sincerely so...rry for the inconvenience, and we hope to open again as soon as possible. All the best, The Freewheel Team

Possibly due to overwhelmingly high volume of calls, our phone lines are down. You can still leave a message and we'll get back to you. You can email us at [email protected] while we scramble to fix this situation. Please bear with us, please stand by.

Freewheel Cycle 24.02.2020

Another week, another mission! This weeks target is the bridge over the 403. This bridge makes a great connection between Iroquois Heights and the Dundas Valley. Just dropping a hint for your adventure. Plot your own course, ride your own route but dont forget to use the #FreewheelDirtGirls tag!

Freewheel Cycle 18.02.2020

An update to our service protocol: As the situation continuously changes, we are doing our best to change with it. As such, we will no longer be doing appointments for workorders to simplify the experience for everyone. If you have a bike to bring in for service there is no need to call or email, simply bring it to our back door, ring the doorbell in the centre of the back wall, under the Freewheel logo and we will come out to collect the bike and your information from you. I...ts as easy as riding a bicycle! We will be sure to update you as anything else changes.

Freewheel Cycle 31.01.2020

Times are difficult for many and bikes are currently more relevant than ever for safe transportation and an escape. With bike supply being limited globally or delayed, the news of SoBi service being suspended was poorly timed to say the least. If you are able to contribute, even a few dollars, toward returning SoBi service to Hamilton this would be a massive support to many families and the employees that have come to find SoBi essential to their lifestyle and transit needs. At Freewheel Cycle, we support local and hope to continue to see cycling grow and be a big part of Hamilton Culture.

Freewheel Cycle 15.01.2020

Our Dirt Girls found a way to ride #TogetherApart. Each Tuesday (our regular ride night) we will launch a new weekly "target". Dirt Girls have all week to do a ride that passes by the target and sharing a photo with the hashtag #FreewheelDirtGirls. At the end of the week, we'll smash the photos into a compilation and release the next target. Please follow recommendations by riding only with your household, planning your ride to avoid crowds. Stay well and stay safe. We look forward to riding and high-fiving with you again!

Freewheel Cycle 04.01.2020

We all ride alone now and then, but its always more fun (in our humble opinion) to ride with friends. This simple, overarching concept led to the creation of Follow Me, Anthill Films' first feature film way back in 2010. After three successful films as the Collective, the crew wanted breakout of that mold and try something different. And while things may have changed a bit over the last 10 years (narrow bars anyone?), the mission and motivation behind Anthills movies still remains the same: get stoked, get outside and ride! Hopefully revisiting some of the classic scenes from Follow Me will still have the desired effect. Watch Follow Me online for free through Sunday, May 24th as the Anthill Movie of the Week: https://mtb.shimano.com//d/anthill-films-movie-of-the-week

The government has eased some restrictions on stores, and we are now permitted to allow limited access to customers. As such our operating procedures will be changing slightly so that we can better serve our customers, while still keeping them and our staff safe. The good health and safety of all is our number one priority. This video provides an overview of our updated in-store procedures, or visit freewheelcycle.com for full details.

Freewheel Cycle 29.11.2019

Who said free movies?!?!? Another one up for all to watch! It seems appropriate right now to share @anthillfilms' 2012 film, Strength in Numbers a film that was created to connect mountain bikers, regardless of location or language or discipline. Watch Strength in Numbers for free through the weekend as part of Anthill Film's Movie of the Week. https://fal.cn/385gY #ShimanoMTB

Then post your photos to your Facebook or Instagram feed (not stories!) with the hashtag #FreewheelChallenge and tag us, Freewhe...el Cycle. Take your time with it; this isn't a race or competition and you can tag as many photos as you like. You don't have to do this by bicycle, we just think bikes are fun.
