I overheard someone in the grocery store this weekend saying they want their Facebook feed to go back to normal. they’re just not a political person they say. choosing not to engage in political conversation is a privilege. in times of oppression, when you choose silence you have chosen the side of the oppressor. ... if what’s going on right now doesn’t directly affect you consider yourself lucky, and then get louder. Here in Canada we love to feign moral superiority oh that would never happen here, we aren’t the US! growing up, my father served as an RCMP officer in the Enfield detachment in Nova Scotia. as I’m sure many of you know a terrifying crime occurred in Nova Scotia this weekend and was ultimately brought to an end at the Big Stop in Enfield. this Big Stop is where my divorced parents used to sometimes meet up so that we could go to my dad’s for the weekend. The members of the force who responded, were many of my dad’s colleagues. While he has been retired for a few years, t...his tragedy hit incredibly close to home. had this happened just a few years earlier, my dad would have been responding to this call. . like many of you, I am still trying to wrap my head around this terrifying and senseless event. we are so thankful to RCMP, first responders, and Nova Scotians for their efforts to save the lives of innocent people. Our hearts are with Nova Scotians and the families of all victims involved in this truly heinous event. In particular we think of Constable Heidi Stevenson and her family. First responders lay their lives on the line everyday. they cannot call in sick, they cannot decide their job feels unsafe and back down. They show up every single day to keep us safe. Constable Stevenson, your Province and Country are forever grateful for your dedication and sacrifice. Nova Scotia - all of Canada is grieving with you
