ROAR! The Gan Lions recently received a very heart felt letter from Ava Deryaw asking if anyone would like to purchase a home made tie die shirt (home made by Ava) to help with the purchase of a new mobility chair for her friend Duckie Steacy. They are friends at school and Duckie has grown out of her chair. Ava decided to do this fundraiser to help her friend. She has made more than 170 tie die shirts and raised almost $5,000.00 herself. Gan Lions presented a cheque to Ava for $1,000.00 to help with the purchase of the chair for her friend Duckie. President Brian is purchasing a shirt from Ava at the Gananoque Lions Centennial Park today. Ava and Duckie are modeling their very attractive shirts. Several children at TIES PSchool are wearing the shirts on special days. Good Work Ava for helping out someone in need.

ROAR! October is Vision Month for Lions Clubs all over the world. We unfortunately cannot go into the elementary schools this year to screen for vision problems. We want to make you aware of this very special month in which Helen Keller is honoured. At the 1925 Convention Helen Keller, asked permission and adopted sight conservation as a major project of Lions International. This was truly an International Convention as the President was the first from Canada, Harry A. Newman. Helen Keller was dealing with a small group of men from the western hemisphere at that time. She did not realize what was going to happen when she asked, ‘Gentlemen, would you be my knights of the blind? WE SERVE

The GREAT CYCLE CHALLENGE ENDED August 31st.! I cycled 1,010 kms over 31 days to help end childhood cancer and to help these brave kids fight this terrible disease. It's was challenging, but it's worth every aching muscle and broken bone to help these kids. Yes, I had a bit of an accident and fractured my scaphoid bone but that is beside the point. Cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Canada. Over 1,400 Canadian children are diagnosed with cancer every year. Another inspiration was that Childhood Cancer is one of the Lions Club’s Global Causes which you know is very important to me.

ROAR! I had the honour of presenting Jen Tidman with her 1st Prize winnings from our District Photo Contest. It was one of those moments doing a selfie that something happens in the background that you don't know about until you open the images. This is one of the benefits of being a Lion..you get to meet all sorts of interesting people (and pets) and share a laugh or two. Congratulations Jen. Seeley's Bay Lions Club - YOU ROCK!.
