To all my clinician friends, I am so excited to share this news with you! Do you see dancers or artistic athletes in your clinic and find it challenging to assess and treat them? Let’s change that!... Dinah & I, physiotherapists, and co-founders of Pivot Dancer have developed a workshop series that will not only help you treat your dancers, but also help you understand the culture of dance and how this impacts pain, recovery and training. Assessing & Treating Dancers and Artistic Athletes that will take place over 8 weeks on Embodia. Follow the link to register! This workshop series will start on Oct 08, 2020 - 18:30 EST (120 minutes) and will continue to occur every Thursday for 8 weeks. https://www.facebook.com/events/660027851610459/
Very excited to have been asked to work with this group!
Strength and Conditioning is Unnecessary? Why would I share this article?! Have a read to understand that although it may not be necessary, strength and conditioning helps with many aspects of Dancer health including career longevity, general health, pain management, and overall wellbeing. A key learning point: "What matters is a progressive stimulus that allows the body to recover to a higher point. Thats the point of S&C." #strongdancer #dance #gym #girlswholift #strenghtening
I am so proud of my bestie Amie Lee who is currently travelling to Japan to work with Hockey Canada's U18 Women's team. They are lucky to have you! https://pictouadvocate.com//amie-lee-cheverie-on-national/
I love everything about this story: from overcoming bullying at a young age, clean sport, determination & grit, and being a strong, powerful woman! What an inspiration to all Canadians!
A new study finds that "being unfit on a treadmill or in an exercise stress test has a worse prognosis, as far as death, than being hypertensive, being diabetic or being a current smoker," and that "It should be treated almost as a disease that has a prescription, which is called exercise." Exercise is medicine! Don't know where to start? Give me a shout.
Recovery is multifactorial and we sometimes forget that nutrition, stress management and sleep can be just as important as load management and therapy. Follow the link to learn how sleep can affect recovery from an injury.
Is the NHL doing enough to prevent concussions? I don't think so. Here is some food for thought: If at some point the safety concern supersedes the financial one, then they’ll do something about it,’’ "By and large, fans cheer the fights and big hits that crumple players. Some rue the rule changes that have reduced both."... "This is simply a battle between financial interests and moral ones. Fifteen, 20 years from now, we’re going to ask, ‘How did we let this happen?’ "
It's a wrap Canada. What an amazing paralympics!
As we sit on our couches cheering for our Canadian athletes, know that sitting is not really bad for you... unlike what you may have read on social media! Just remember to move often, reverse your posture and exercise! Need a bit more guidance? Come see us Amped Sports Lab and Ice Complex! #gocanadago #olympics #exerciseismedicine #sittingwontkillyou
"I count myself so fortunate to #travel the #world doing #work I love to do, with people I #love to work with." I get to live my dream every single day. Come and see me Amped Sports Lab and Ice Complex to see how working with top international athletes gives me an edge when helping you get back to your best! Thank you @westernualumni for highlighting our journey to Taipei and to the wonderful @clegghea for being such a great colleague and friend!... See more
