Customer brought us laptop today and complained it was running very poorly. We replaced the hard drive and reinstalled windows and running much faster ! We also do a FREE fan cleaning and thermal paste install when we are inside a customer laptop. ... We found this dirt clogging the fan vents, and lots of smoke .. The thermal paste was bone dry. Leaving paste and fan clogged like this can cause a computer to overheat and shut off. Overtime , it can damage the CPU. Computer was cleaned and running much better! Received the all new MacBook Pro 2020 13 today in our store after a customer dropped hot chocolate all over the machine .... They also attempted the rice method which if people have been following (it’s a myth) it doesn’t work to fix electronics and here is proof !!! The MacBook didn’t charge on any of the 4 USB C Ports. Another MacBook Air comes into our store after the MacBook was hit with a a nice smoothie. Refreshing for the customer but not the MacBook. U5110 was shorted and so was PP342_G3H The machine was stoned cold dead and no green or orange light.... After replacing the shorted components, the machine booted but we still didnt get green light. Customer brings HP laptop in for repair. They told us it was running slow and the keyboard doesnt work. We replaced the hard drive with an SSD which is faster. When we replaced the hard drive and went to turn the laptop on, there was no power or charging. It was dead! We ended up having to tear down the laptop to investigate. There is a mosfet that feeds power into the laptop from the dc jack which is your 19 volts. We were getting 19 volts on the input and output side of th...e mosfet so it wasnt a bad mosfet. We inspected the keyboard and found coffee inside and was causing the computer to short and not boot. After removing the bad keyboard , the computer now charged and boots! Customer from Notre-Dame-du-Nord, QC brings us a MacBook Air 2017 in for repair! The MagSafe light isnt showing green or orange light and doesnt turn on! Inspecting the board, we found corrosion on PP3V42_G3H . We had to replace C5120 as it was only 0.5 volts when it should be 3.4 volts. After removing, we found the trace was gone from the corrosion so we ran a jumper wire from U5110 over to C5120 which brings us back to 3.42volts . Without 3.42volts, the SMC wont work and... wont provide our one wire circuit to the MagSafe to provide green light. After fixing the circuit, we now have a working MacBook Air! Customer brings Nintendo switch in for repair after saying it doesnt turn on anymore. Upon opening and inspecting, the battery was reading 2.5 volts instead of 3.7volts. After charging the battery on our bench supply to 3.7 volts, the switch charges and turns back on! iPad Pro 9.7 comes in after customer informs us she has a charging problem. Upon inspection, the device seemed to be dead and wouldnt charge. After testing tristar, we concluded it was damaged in the board from cheap third party cables After replacing the chip, the iPad boots and now charges again. ... We try to educate our customers with the use of using original or MFI certified cables. If you dont use them and go buy knock offs or cheap quality, you risk damaging the chip. A typical tristar replacement ranges $150 - $200 which was worth it for this customer as the iPad Pro models go for around $1500. If you use the proper cable, you dont need to spend to fix it. Some believe us and others think its a hoax but its really not. We see many tristar failures come in to our store all the time. If you read this far, dont be cheap. Buy a good quality cable .
