With the increase in cases across the city and with some folks spreading fear about the health risk of ‘The Village’, we thought it would be a good time for a friendly reminder: Glad Day never really left Phase Two. In the last 200 days, Glad Day has only had people inside for dining for 8 hours. We hosted four 2 hour indoor events, at 30% of our capacity, with lots of distance between tables and the windows and door wide open for air. All our ventilation is 100% outdoor air.... We have also created a small, easy-to-clean, space inside for people to browse books one group at a time. While this has led to a significant reduction in potential revenue, it felt like what we needed to do. We have had a cute patio all summer and fall, and it will continue to be open until November 3rd. So bring a sweater or a blanket and enjoy hot drinks, weekend brunch or our beignets safely outside. We don’t know what the future brings and we are certainly concerned about a second wave during the cold months that will result in limited revenue. The Federal and Municipal governments are assuring us they will help us, but right now it’s mostly just talk without details beyond November 30th. These last few months, Glad Day Lit raised over $300,000 to help LGBTQ+ artists and tip-based workers over 1300 times with the help of over 1000 donors. Our community and our allies have shown, time and time again, that we have each other’s back in a crisis. As we enter yet another phase of this crisis, may we continue to take care of each other, stay connected through the arts, and dream of a better world. Because our goal is not to go back to the way things were, but to create a future that honours all people, creativity, culture, community and justice.
