Statement regarding Peel Region from Restaurants Canada President and CEO, Todd Barclay Restaurants are still being forced to limit their operations in Peel because cases are rising in a region where we have not been open and therefore are not a cause of the problem. There is no data to justify the continuation of restrictions in this area. Once again our industry has been provided only hours to course correct and resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost food and... thousands of people continuing to be out of work. We deserve the right to sit at the table with the government, to review their data and develop a plan that keeps our guests safe and ensure our businesses can stay open. As Ontario continues to endure a second wave of COVID-19, restaurants are being singled out and deserve to understand why. Given that dining rooms provide a safe alternative to private gatherings, Restaurants Canada is calling for data transparency to understand what is driving government decisions related to dining restrictions and consultation with industry to help restaurants avoid indoor dining closures.
