You may have noticed that along with many other accounts on your feed, we too, paused our social media content last week to help amplify the voices that need to be heard. . The voices of POC don’t just need to be to heard for a week. They’ve been needed to be heard for DECADES. . In the last few weeks, I’ve read heartbreaking stories from friends. Their precious and innocent kids are being called racial slurs at the local playground. Kids being called the N word at school. P...rominent figures in our society who continue to flaunt racially charged comments online. . I grew up as a visible minority in a predominantly White community. I have memories as a 4-year old, being called names because I looked different than all the other kids. I didn’t think it affected me much but I know that at a young age, I took deep interest in the injustices in our history (my Grade 7 book report was on the book Roots by Alex Haley). Clearly, both obvious and subversive racism affects children. . I am proud to be a second generation Canadian. But I am sad that in almost four decades, we have yet to correct the racially unjust wrongs of the generations before us. . So what have we learned? . 1 Educate ourselves. It’s our job to learn about racial injustices and what we can do to help. Ignorance is NOT bliss. . 2 Choose action over inaction. Speak out. In person and online. And often. Teach our children to speak up when they witness injustices. . 3 Systemic racism exists in Canada. Not just in other countries. It is happening right here. In the justice system. In our communities. And sadly, even at our playgrounds. . 4 Be an ally in your every day conversations. At the breakfast table with your kids. In your workplace with colleagues. . 5 LISTEN and LEARN. #Repost @dr.stephanieyaremko On Mother's Day I wanted to post a picture that encompasses being a mother to me. This is it. I'll explain why in a moment. . 3 years ago I lost my mom 2 weeks before Mother's Day. Every advertisement, commercial, mention of celebration re: moms felt like I was being stabbed in the heart. I felt isolated and cut off from the world. I felt invisible and like my grief and sorrow didn't matter. It led me to thinking about how many people feel ...pain on Mother's day. Not only those who've lost their moms. Those who have a strained or severed relationship with their mom. Those who were abused or abandoned by their mothers. Mothers who've lost their children. Women wanting or trying to have children but are struggling or unable to. (A recent post by @bowsandbentos writes a beautiful love letter to all those hurting today. I highly recommend reading it.) And if you're hurting today and find today bittersweet or just downright painful know that you're not alone. Know that there ARE people who care about you and are thinking of you and sending you love. Why this photo? It's definitely not a typical mother-type photo. It's hard to see, but I'm actually nursing my daughter and she's fallen asleep, dozing in the afternoon autumn sun, safe and secure in her mother's arms. What you can't see is that at the time of the photo I was 4 months pregnant and had begun to bleed the morning of this photo. I knew previously from my ultrasounds and #NIPT blood tests that I was very likely to #miscarry (around 97%), but I still held out hope. And here I am holding my daughter, knowing that the baby inside of me has died and praying that I'm wrong. Praying for strength. Surrendering to the universe all that is beyond my control and feeling its support and the support of the collective of mothers who have lost their babies. The support of mothers who had their #miracle babies. For me, this photo encapsulates both the beauty and sorrow of motherhood and ultimately its understated strength. . Today, I appreciate being able to truly celebrate #mothersday with my wonderful husband and daughter. They bring so much joy to my life. #motherhood

We have been working hard this past week creating a plan that allows us to re-open and safely welcome you back for in-person appointments. . As of Wednesday May 13, the clinic will be open for in-person appointments for the following services: * IV therapy * Vitamin injections... * Bowen Therapy * Prolotherapy * Acupuncture * Physical examinations * In-clinic testing * Neurofeedback * Counselling At this time, we are unable to offer massage therapy, craniosacral therapy or medical microneedling. We will re-visit this once Phase 2 of the Alberta Relaunch Strategy is in place. . We are still encouraging patients to connect with their practitioners via telemedicine and tele-counselling. This is to help keep everyone safe at home. . As well, our popular and convenient curbside pick up service will still be available Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm. . We have taken several measures to keep our pateints, staff and practitioners safe, including: * created a clinic-wide policy to ensure we are healthy and safe to come to work * minimizing the number of practitioners at any given time * installed a nifty plexiglass shield on our front desk counter * placed physical distancing markers throughout our clinic * strategic furniture placements to adhere to physical distancing measures * contactless reception services * only allowing patients with appointment to enter the clinic; If you need supplement refills, please use our convenient curbside pick up service! . In return, we have a few asks of you, our patients. If you are coming in for an appointment, we require our patients to: # * wear a mask or face covering when entering the clinic and for the duration of your appointment (cloth masks or scarves are acceptable!) * only come into the clinic five minutes before your appointment time * only come for your appointment if you are symptom-free and have cleared the COVID-19 screening .
