Today we continue our column from Maryanne East as we consider how to sustain and support our faith. Now more than ever we are being encouraged to be conscientious about our health, our safety, our planet’s safety. Every scene in front of us on the street, in the stores, on the TV reminds us of a new normal. We have been actively seeking ways to be more cognitive of everything around us, what we touch, don’t touch. What we can approach and what we can’t. We have worked hard a...nd done well. Let us not loose faith in these challenging times. Let us not loose sight of our loved ones, our neighbours, and our spiritual selves. Although social media has been a considerable life line, it is imperative that we not let slip the significance of our quality of life. In other words, in order to maintain the value of life our Pope Francis reminds us in his recent Encyclical Letter, The generous encounter between persons is not acquired by the mere accumulation of data. In these times of isolation the ability to visually see and hear someone is crucial. To witness expression, emotion is to experience one’s true feelings and to truly be there for them. Give thought to how to connect via video chats, curbside physically distanced visits, or even a phone call. Pray that the Spirit be with you as you reach out to others and reach out to God. May you be rewarded in the loving vitality you can experience.
