Words of wisdom from our hero......

As if 2020 weren’t bad enough, the guitar and music world has been devastated this week with the terrible and sad news of the passing of Ed. Still trying to process this between all the tears. Like most guitarists on the planet, he had a huge impact on my guitar playing but it goes way deeper than that for this writer. Edward not only influenced me as a musician but also as a person and, undoubtedly set the course for decisions I made in life through some of the conversations... we had. I was blessed to have spent some time with Ed on several occasions (just a few of many pics of us in our younger years in this post). Some were quick meetings and others were long where we would get into deep conversations while having a few beers discussing everything from music to life to family. Family was very important to him. He was always so down to earth and was very cool to me over the years. I wanted to give him a meaningful gift as a thank you for all the inspiration he had given me through his music and words of wisdom. I had a painting done of three generations of Van Halen and gave it to him in his hotel room when he was in town next. He cried and gave me a couple of hugs that day so I knew he liked it but I figured people must give him things all the time and it would just get tossed in a pile somewhere. However, I didn’t realize how much it meant to him until a few years later when I found out it was hanging on the wall in his house right next to his parents wedding picture and amongst some of the awards he had won over the years. Apparently, it has been there all these years and I am so grateful that I was able to give him something which brought him joy. the way he and his music brought us all so much joy. I feel incredible sadness and emptiness knowing that he has left this world. This is just such a devastating loss to me. and to the music world. He changed everything. His legacy will live on forever and the music. Oh man, the music. Thank you, thank you, thank you Ed. Sincere condolences to Wolf Van Halen, Janie, Alex, Valerie, and the extended family and close friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. RIP Edward. I love you man.. always will.
