Brandon McGee of Day Insurance and Colin Brewer of Stanley Mutual presented a $5,000 cheque to Rebecca Allen, Community Schools Coordinator, and Principal Jo Ann Schwarze last week at the Blacks Harbour School. The donation is in support of their Afterschool Program, which was launched 6 years ago to address poverty and inequality in the area affecting their students. The program offers healthy living (physical activities, nutrition and Chef’s Club), learning opportunities (...homework help, learning stations, clubs), life skills development (social skills and self-esteem building), and creative expression (arts, music, etc.) to those who attend regularly. In addition, the Afterschool Program also provides breakfast and lunch services to over half of their school population on a daily basis. During the summer months, the Afterschool Program transitions into a free-of-cost summer camp that also includes daily instruction by licensed teachers. We are thrilled to support this incredible initiative which helps to encourage the healthy development of children in the Blacks Harbour community!
