LET'S PARTY! (on Zoom!) Join us on Valentine's Day for a virtual party! We're going to have 2 parties, one for ages 3-4 and one for ages 5-8. Each will be about an hour long and have a half hour gymnastics class, a craft, and Valentine's themed games Pre-registration is required! Head to our website and when you're in the online registration portal look under "Inservice Day Camps (Southdale) to find the parties. The cost is $15 + GST & that includes a goodie bag wit...h treats and the supplies needed for the craft (minus scissors & crayons, you will need to use your own). Payment can be done by credit card over the phone or e-transfer. Registration is open until Thursday, February 11. This is going to be so much fun! We really hope you can join us online! Pictured are the bags the kids will receive. The 3-4 year olds will receive the bag with the plate bear craft , and the 5-8 year olds will receive the bag with the love bug craft

FREE ZOOM CLASSES ARE BACK! We had lots of fun with virtual classes before the break and are bringing them back until we can reopen in person! Wednesdays 1:30-2:30 - Preschool GymKyds... Thursdays 6:30-7:00 - Preschool GymKyds 7:30-8:10 - GymKyds 1 & 2 Saturdays 10:30-11:00 - Preschool GymKyds 11:30-12:10 - GymKyds 1 & 2 12:30-1:10 - Advanced GymKyds The meeting ID & password are the same as before. If you don't have the information send us an email ([email protected]) and we'll send you the Zoom login details. These classes are completely optional and do not count as make up classes for the ones our students are missing due to the temporary shutdown. We will make up misses classes by extending our fall session. Exact dates TBA. Our Preschool GymKyds classes will have a new theme every week (just like at the gym!) Next week (Jan 13, 14, 16) is COLOURS! We recommend students use a mat or softer surface like carpet for the class if possible. We also recommend having the following props on hand... Preschool GymKyds: shakers, pillow, small stuffed animal, & scarf (a piece of fabric or tissue works too). GymKyds 1 & 2: pillow SEE YOU ON ZOOM!

This show being streamed online and is completely free to watch as part of the Safe at Home program from the Manitoba Government. Get your popcorn ready, this show will make for a fun night in!

Let's start 2021 with some FUN! Time for a little contest! Create your own 30 second-1 minute gymnastics routine at home, film it, and share it with us to enter! We want you to try and include at least 3 of your favourite gymnastics skills. Be creative & have fun with it! There are 3 divisions & we will pick our favourite 3 from each division to win a prize! Age 5 & under... Age 6 & up Family Group Film a solo routine of yourself or enter the Family Group category by filming a duet or group routine with family members from within your household! Our winners will receive a water bottle, GymKyds t-shirt, candy, and a $20 store credit to Flipwear! @flipwear.canada Deadline to enter is JANUARY 31, 2021! We will repost the videos as they come. We can't wait to see what you come up with & share your videos! This is going to be a blast!

Highlight of the day: CLEANING VELCRO! Can you tell we're really reaching the end of all the spare projects we can do around the gym while we're still closed? We are sure other gyms can relate to the pain of having to clean velcro. Velcro gets so nasty & full of hair, dust, and who knows what else. We've found something that works really well to clean velcro, PET BRUSHES! These brushes are from Dollar Tree and have little metal teeth that really do the job to clean the velcro. The side of the box Peggy cleans in this video took about 10 minutes. It's a bit of a tedious project but the end result is fantastic! Our velcro will be sticky once more and look nice & clean!

Our friend, Sammy sent Peggy the sweetest video message to wish her a Happy New Year & check in on our GymKyds staff . You may remember Sammy from his garden reports at GymKyds this past summer. What a kid! Can't wait to see you in person again soon, Sammy!

A year end update from Peggy! Here’s what’s going on with GymKyds right now & our plans for the new year. 2020 was GymKyds 20th year I'm business! Definitely not how we envisioned the year would be! As always, we pushed through and ended up still having a pretty good year despite all the challenges. We thank everyone for their support over all these years and will definitely plan a big in person celebration whenever it's safe to do so. Keep an eye on our social media for up...dates about when we’ll be able to reopen, what our exact session dates will be for our Winter/Spring 2021 session, and info on January Zoom classes! EQUIPMENT FOR HOME USE! We did equipment rentals back in the spring when everyone was stuck at home the first time around. We want to help gymnasts continue to train safely from home. Since our classes are on pause for the next couple of weeks, we will be renting pieces of equipment out for home use! Equipment will be sanitized by us prior to your curbside pickup and again once returned to the gym. We will rent pieces out for 1 week at a time. We have multiples of ever...ything & beyond what is shown here. If you are needing something else just ask and we’ll see if we have. Please email [email protected] if you would like to arrange a rental! 1. Bar & mat set - adjustable height bar 2. Panel mats - various colours and lengths 3. Foldable wedge mats 4. Trapezoid boxes 5. Cartwheel boxes 6. Cartwheel/beam reversible mat 7. Floor parallel bars 8. Various low beams/floor beams A damage deposit in the form of a cheque will be required for each item. All items except the bar & mat set are $20 for 1 week and a $100 damage deposit. The bar & mat sets are $40 for 1 week and a $200 damage deposit. We will only cash a damage deposit cheque if a piece of equipment comes back damaged, otherwise the cheque will be returned or destroyed. Please share this with your friends who are also training from home!

We have updated our COVID-19 safety measures. The big change is how students will now enter and exit the gym. No more exiting through the side door to avoid wet fall/winter footwear on the gym floor Please see the video we have added to the linked webpage for what the new entry & exit method looks like. Please review it with your child before their next class. Please note for daytime classes falling between 11:00-3:00 students are to use the lobby as the waiting area as ou...r kindergarten care students use the spare room off the lobby during the day. Look who arrived today!!! Jimmy the Gym Elf is back! He'll be quarantining for the next two weeks but he seems pretty cool about it. He's cozy by the fireplace enjoying a movie! Thank you Jimmy for respecting Covid-19 protocols regarding international travel! Our before & after school program kids better be on their best behaviour while Jimmy is here!

A reminder we will be closed Sunday & Monday (October 11 & 12) for Thanksgiving. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Wishing everyone a safe & happy Halloween! We are sad to be closed today due to Winnipeg's move to code red. We know we technically could have waited until Monday to close but thought the responsible thing to do was to close for the weekend. Since our Saturday classes will miss out on getting their Halloween group photos we ask that each student take a photo in costume at home and email it to us ([email protected]). We will compile the individual photos into a group photo collage so these classes still get their Halloween group photo. Yet another Covid-19 innovation! Let's see those costumes, Saturday friends!

Starting October 1st GymKyds will be collecting socks for Main Street Project's annual Socktober donation drive! The goal is to collect clean, new and gently used socks to give to community members in need. We will have a drop off bin in the lobby at the gym for anyone wanting to donate socks. As the weather gets colder having clean, warm, & dry socks to wear is essential. Thank you in advance for your donations!

October 30, 2020 Hello GymKyds families, With today’s update from the Manitoba government moving Winnipeg into code red we wanted to update you about how that affects us at GymKyds. GymKyds classes will be put on pause immediately (Friday, October 30th, 2020). Though code red does not take effect until Monday, we are making the choice to close immediately. There will be no classes this weekend (October 31 & November 1).... As promised at the start of the session, in the event of another shutdown we would pause the current fall session and finish it when safe to do so. Our fall session will finish later to make up for the missed classes. Our winter and spring sessions will start later to accommodate this change. In today’s update Dr. Roussin said the code red will last at least two weeks but could be longer. Within the next couple of weeks we will update everyone on our updated session dates and when we will be back. Our kindergarten half day, before, & after school program will continue to run since schools are not shutdown. The safety of our participants and staff are always our highest priority. Please listen to public health guidelines and everyone do your part to stop the spread of Covid-19. We want to see everyone healthy and happy back at the gym as soon as possible. These have been difficult times for everyone. The quicker we can all get on board and follow the rules the better it will be for everyone. We appreciate your support through these difficult times. Hello GymKyds families, With the new updates from the Manitoba government moving Winnipeg into "orange" we wanted to update you about how that affects us at GymKyds. At this time we will be running classes as usual. If that needs to change we will let you know. GymKyds is still at a safe and allowable capacity under the guidelines. Coaches are all wearing masks and masks are mandatory for any parents inside our facility. ... We are strongly encouraging parents to drop off & pick up children ages 5 & over without entering the facility. Pick up will continue to be at the side door for now. Once the weather turns colder we will we adjust this and use only the front door. We will create a flow in and out of the gym where the two classes passing each other do not come in close contact. Please trust that we are doing all we can to keep everything running safely at GymKyds. Thank you for your continued support through these unpredictable times.
