Hi Happy Tails pack! I wanted to take a moment to clarify what services I can and cannot still offer at this time: If you are an essential/front line worker who is gone from home and require pet care in your absence, then I am in turn essential to you. If someone did not take care of your pet, then that would be considered a loss of health and welfare for him. So again, if you're an essential worker- I can still walk your dog, and I can still care for your cats or other pet...s. However, I cannot stay in your home for longer than it takes to get your dog ready to go, or than it takes to check in on other pets. This means unfortunately that indoor enrichment and all private training is temporarily suspended. Please keep collars, harnesses, coats, treats, etc near the door so I am not going too far into your home if not necessary. Free training consultations can be provided via Zoom or phone. I can send you a few free training tips and guidance, but I cannot be with you physically for this part yet. In addition, as always, I will be masked and sanitizing my hands before entry. I will be using my own leashes, so I am not touching more of your things than necessary. Overnight sitting is not something I can provide until lockdown is over, however, I can refer you to trusted boarding facilities in the area that are still open. Poop scooping is something I can still do while making zero contact with the homeowner, and this type of service is considered essential. Working on increasing the duration of Mel's "stay"! As you can see, Mel understands the concept but gets excited to approach for a reward and wants to keep moving. I think he may not have been ready to add as much time to his stay when on a walk just yet, we've only done a few brief sessions so far. Part of the challenge is learning to do this when not at home, in a possibly distracting environment. At the end, he stays but does express some frustration with barking. As soon... as he was quiet, he was rewarded immediately and with more treats than usual for holding his stay so long! So why would I post a "messy" training video?! Because sometimes learning IS messy. Often on TV and social media, content is cut and produced to show end results of training. In reality, teaching your dog a new skill takes time and patience. When learning something new they can falter, which only communicates to us that we're moving too fast, need to adjust our approach, or need to watch our timing, etc. Mel showed me we need a bit more practice before this will be "easy" for him. And that's okay!!! This is brand new to him, and I'm super proud of what "stay" progress he has shown when we only work on it a few minutes at a time. Mel is very focused when we work together, and is very smart.
