Now in its 16th year, the Blues in the Schools program was designed as an educational program to promote the cultural context and history of blues music. In a regular year, the program serves 22 schools and over 3000 students from elementary to high schools in the Fredericton region with clinicians presenting live workshops during Harvest week. Given the challenges inherent with COVID-19 of presenting live musicians, Harvest has recreated the program for 2020 with renowned Bl...ues Music educator Fruteland Jackson from Chicago. With Harvest’s support, Fruteland has recorded virtual versions of his workshops for the first time so that they can be presented online allowing for many more schools to participate. We want to thank the generous support of UNB Fredericton's Faculty of Education for making this year's Blues In The School possible. We are excited to broadcast Fruteland Jackson's Blues In The School High School lessson. Tune into CBC television's Absolutely Canadian this Saturday November 14th at 8pm to catch The Capital Project - My Song Is My Name. The documentary features many great Indigenous musicians from our area, including Marian and Quinn Bonnell who were both featured during Harvest 29 1/2. We will be tuning in and so should you!

Live music venues have been severely impacted this year. Venues are unable to allow regular capacities and musicians have seen their scheduled gigs disappear almost completely. It is for this reason we need to remember the importance of our live music venues here in Fredericton and across the country. The #LightUpLive campaign seeks to bring awareness to an industry that employs thousands of professionals on and off the stage and is the reason the music notes throughout the city are painted red. We ask this evening to light up any Red lights you may have to acknowledge the difficulties facing our live music industry. #LightUpLive
