From reader Glenda Bedard: Hi Sarah, got the book and am half way through. Loving it! You did a lot of research on that. I have been working on some missing people from the psych hospital in North Bay. A lot of people went missing from there before it got closed down. Now there's a project for you! Looking forward to your next one!

For all my northern friends,,,, please if you hear anything at all regarding Amandas death can you please contact OPP or GSPS and let them know any little thing... you have heard. If you cannot do this or do not feel comfortable doing this please private message me with any little thing you may have heard. This lady didnt just stay in her home by herself. She had friends who she associated with. She hung around places in Sudbury. Anything at all PLEASE help out. Do not let this go like all the other cases which have gone cold. There are way too many ladies going missing and or murdered up there. It is time to stop this. Lets not allow this case to go cold also. See more

Not sure who started the rumor, but I can probably guess. Contrary to what you may have heard, no copies of Unsolved Sudbury were pulled off the shelves in response to recent bullying tactics. Unsolved Sudbury continues to be sold locally. ... Thank you and remember: don't let people who have such little impact on your life dictate how you feel about yourself.

I'm in the writing mood. Here's a true tale of violence against Indigenous people as told to me by a lifelong resident: The First Time I Saw a Dead Body... When I was four years old, two cars went drag racing along Long Lake Road and hit a young high school student from Lo Ellen Park Secondary School. In 1972, Long Lake Road was newly paved and fairly quiet. If you didn't see a car go by in half an hour's time, it wouldn't be unusual. Then something broke the silence. It was the sound of a car speeding down the road with the music blaring - and the sudden thud as the driver hit someone with the front-end bumper. Her name was D, and she had been left to die. The night D was hit, she was on her way home to Harrison Dr off Long Lake Road where she lived with her parents and three brothers. It was summer and the air was warm and alive with the sound of crickets from the tall grass on either side of the road. The morning after the hit-and-run, I was picking blueberries behind Mr S's house at the corner of Ester Rd. As I stood on top of the rock cut, I looked down and I saw her body. D was Native with tan skinned, but overnight she had turned pale. She wore a printed shirt and I remember that her body was twisted, like her back had been broken. Her long hair was thrown in the direction that her body had landed. She was on her side and only half her face was showing. When I saw D's body, I was in instant shock. I turned around and rushed back to my family home and I called out, Mom! Mom! as I raced across the grass. When I reached the back door, my mom was already standing in the doorframe. Breathlessly I cried out, Come see. Come see. There's a dead girl. You're full of moe, my mom answered, searching my face for the truth. No, no come! I'll show you! I begged, trying to convince her. Finally, my mom agreed to follow me back to the rock behind Mr. S's house, and when we looked down, we saw D's body surrounded by a small group of about four or five people. One passerby had pulled over and parked his car, two others were from the H family who lived on the farm where the present day Walmart now stands. Just as one of the bystanders was about to reach down and touch Dorothy's shoulder, my mom yanked me away and said, You don't need to see that. Put that outta your head! My mom had deep superstitions regarding death instilled in her, and she didn't want to be around a dead body. But the image of D's mangled remains stayed in my head. She would be the first of many local deaths that imprinted themselves on my memory, and hardened my heart.

Today is the anniversary of the 1979 murder of Jim Dacey, and the subsequent disappearance of Pam Harvey. "Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny." Mtw. 5:26
