We are now set up to offer private treatments in our smaller room in addition to Community Acupuncture. This means that if you are uncomfortable or unable to attend sessions within a spacious group setting, you can book *by phone* for a session for just yourself, or for you and your pod or family! Private treatments take place in a comfort...able recliner chair but you will not be sharing the space with anyone outside your pod. We’re so excited to share our newest acupuncturist - Susan Shields You can now find Susan in the clinic every Friday from 1-6pm and Saturday from 1-5pm. She is a great person with lots of Community Acupuncture experience! Read more about her Acupuncture story below: Susan came across Acupuncture in her efforts to heal a sore back and a broken heart. She soon became a big fan and found that the hours spent with those little pins in not only helped her immediate concerns..., but also made her entire life much better. She loves Community Acupuncture because it helps us reconnect to ourselves and access our inner resources in a simple and profound way, reminds us that we are not alone, and makes this powerful medicine accessible to more people. She graduated with a Diploma of Acupuncture from Pacific Rim College in 2012, and since then has had the good fortune of working and learning at Heart and Hands Health Collective, Poke Community Acupuncture, PHS Community Services Society, Peers Victoria Resources Society, and Barefoot Acupuncturists. Who else misses these cookies!? This #wellnesswednesday we’re sharing an immune boosting tea!! We shared this last season and it feels even more appropriate now. For this recipe you’ll need: - 5 cups of water - The peel of 1 lemon - Juice of 1 lemon - 2 inch piece of ginger cut in thin rounds, skin on... - 2 inch piece of turmeric root cut in thin rounds or grated, skin on - Tiny pinch of cayenne pepper - 1 crack of black pepper - 1 cinnamon stick - 1 teaspoon virgin coconut oil or ghee - Honey Bring the water, lemon peel, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, cinnamon stick and black pepper to a bare simmer, turn the heat down to low, cook for 7 minutes. You don't want the pot to bubble or boil, it affects the therapeutic qualities in the turmeric. Take off the heat and squeeze in the lemon juice land stir in the coconut oil or ghee. Strain the tea into a cup and add honey to taste. The purchase of services at Hemma supports the existence of our community health centre, it supports everyone who works at Hemma, and it supports you! To use the sliding scale, simply select a place on the scale that allows you to access the services you need. The amount you choose may change from month-...to-month, year-to-year. We dont need to know why youre paying what you are - whether its at the very bottom, somewhere in the middle or right at the tip top. When you need a discount give yourself one, when you can contribute more remember that youre helping others! Accessibility and affordability have been core principles of our business model since the beginning. Its been our mission to provide accessible healthcare for all and as such we have continued to offer Community Acupuncture treatments at $20-40 despite having to reopen with lower patient volume and increase operating expenses.
