Now COVID-19 is messing with Blu-ray disc production. Raven Banner Entertainment's Hunky Boy Edition release of PG: Psycho Goreman has been delayed due to a shortage of polycarbonate plastics which are used to produce both medical syringes and Blu-rays.
Longtime festival supporter Ken Colville has released his first novel on Amazon. Check it out! "A sudden unexplainable flash of blinding light leads to the appearance of a mysterious green spore growing throughout a rural backyard. Now its up to two best friends to figure out what is happening, before its too late. First time author, Kenneth Rae Colville, offers a glimpse into an exciting new world, a world filled with strange and unexplainable events, where your fears become reality, where anything is possible, and after the flash, this world is just beginning to grow."

Jill Gevargizian's The Stylist feature film is now available to stream in the US, UK, and Canada via Arrow Video. Although we did not have the pleasure of screening this feature, members of its creative team are no strangers to HXFF and we want to congratulate them on the release of their latest film. Check it out! In 2016, we screened Gevargizian's short film "The Stylist" (on which the feature is based) where it won our award for MOST SHOCKING SHORT. In 2014 we screened Gevargizian's short CALL GIRL (starring Tristan Risk) and John Pata's short PITY (Pata is the editor on The Stylist feature). The film is expected to make its way to Blu-ray and VOD platforms in June.

The production of UMBRELLA ACADEMY season 2 took over big sections of our city for months, turning whole streets into 1960s era Dallas. Not going to lie, we kind of wish those 1960s era diners and movie theatres that popped up on Ottawa St. were real!
For those of you who expressed interest in getting more information about the closure of our longtime venue -- The Staircase Theatre -- the Spec has an article about these developments.
Hey everybody, have you heard the news? CRYPTIDS -- the Feature Length Creature Horror Anthology starring horror host Joe Bob Briggs -- is now crowdfunding on Indiegogo, and there are a lot of former Hexploitation/Fright Night Theatre alumni and award-winning filmmakers involved! CRYPTIDS is a horror anthology that takes place in a radio station on a show called "The Truth Serum" hosted by Major Harlan Dean (Briggs). One night, Harlan decides to tackle the topic of cryptozool...ogy but as the phone lines light up and the calls come in, each caller's story becomes increasingly more bizarre, and Harlan starts to question if real dangers are lurking outside the station. The anthology is produced by Justin M. Seaman (The Barn) and Zane Hershberger (Force to Fear), and will feature segments directed by other festival alum like Billy Pon (Circus of the Dead) and Brett DeJager (Bonejangles). Check out the link for full details as well as the exclusive news of Joe Bob's casting dropped by Rue Morgue: https://rue-morgue.com/exclusive-poster-comments-joe-bob-b/
This post is a tribute to former festival and event volunteer Sarah White who passed yesterday (1979-2020). As a horror fan, model, and makeup artist, Sarah was one of our biggest supporters in the early years of Horror in the Hammer, the Hamilton Zombie Walk, and Fright Night Theatre / Hexploitation. Whether it was dressing up as a ghoul or vamp to hand out flyers or to assist with makeup at our events, she was always game to participate in our shenanigans. One of our favorite memories was in 2015 during our SCARY SH*T short film presentation. In tribute to the marketing gimmicks of William Castle, we offered attendees "DEATH INSURANCE" in case of Death By Fright. Sarah, of course, showed up as our glamorous nurse to perform a mock physical on all attendees. Sarah was beloved by many friends, family, and admirers. She will be missed.
