Our store is very low on casual pants for men and women (jeans, jogging pants, leggings). Please consider donating new or gently used casual wear for our community! Feel free to DM us for drop off options.
And ... for reasons outside our control we have to be closed tomorrow (Friday). So sad after the previously shared momentum! We're praying that everyone stays healthy and safe, and we hope to see our community again next week.
A neighbour helped us clear our sidewalk yesterday (thank you!), and we celebrated moving into the red zone together by serving sidewalk coffee and muffins! It was so good to be able to connect a bit more freely again. We are open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-4pm.
What you think matters! Helping Hands Street Mission friends are encouraged to have their say in social planning and engagement opportunities. So here's an opportunity for everyone: Hamilton is developing a plan to improve safety and well-being in our community and they need our input! Join #EngageHamilton for community meetings Feb 24 or 25: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-safety-well-being-pl or provide your input on #EngageHamilton until March 1 https://engage.hamilton.ca/community-safety-and-well-being-. We're signing up and will see you at the virtual meeting!
One of the Helping Hands Street Mission friends asked Councillor Nann Nrinder Nann, Councillor Ward 3 Hamilton to help us get a cigarette disposal/garbage, so we can help keep Barton Village Barton Village BIA clean. Thank you, C. and City of Hamilton Fred Eisenberger!
Thank you to the Homeschool High School Local Mission Class for coming to clean up the neighbourhood around Helping Hands Street Mission. 28 bags of garbage were collected - you're amazing! @beautifulalleys @barton_village @cityofhamilton
Have you been enjoying our videos? If you’ve missed them, you can always check them out on our website at https://www.hhsmhamilton.com/hunger-and-homelessness/. We’re using this virtual campaign to raise funds to support our community instead of our annual fundraising gala. Please check us out, watch our videos and join in the story!
Join our Outreach Worker, Jeff, in supporting friends to gain access to resources. These informational and inspirational videos are intended to invite you to join in with our story. We have been receiving plenty of physical donations over the past weeks - now we ask you to join us by supporting Helping Hands Street Mission financially. We are currently at $5325 of our goal to raise $10,000 through this campaign, so your help is still greatly needed. Please consider what you a...re able to give at this time. Your financial gifts will allow us to continue to provide the support that is needed by our friends on Barton Street. Thank you to @levelshair @levelshamilton (Levels Hair Salon) for challenging your clients to support the community personal hygiene needs at Helping Hands Street Mission! It takes a village, and you are an important part of our village. Thank you.
Check out the second video for our virtual fundraising campaign during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. And donate, to help us make up for not being able to host our annual Fundraising Gala. We're hoping to raise $10,000 to support our community. https://www.hhsmhamilton.com/hunger-and-homelessness

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week - Day 5 Helping Hands Street Mission has been around for 17 years, and we've been privileged to walk alongside some pretty special people, including Lorna Urquhart, a Mother of the Street. Thanks to Sam for sharing his mother's story. For those who knew and loved Lorna, watch for a beautiful surprise after Sam is done sharing .... We remember all those who have fought and died for our freedom. We also remember especially veterans and soldiers who deal with the long term ramifications of post-traumatic impacts of war, violence and the weight of protection.

Today we lost a beautiful soul - a wife, mother, sister and friend. Lorna Urquhart was thoughtful, kind, generous, and a gentle witness of God's love to the world. We will miss her, and look forward to seeing her again in heaven some day. Pray with us for her family, who are devastated by her sudden departure.
Register for our Golf Quest Fundraiser on October 3, or sign up to be a Hole Sponsor! Staggered tee times at Century Pines, and learn about homelessness and poverty in Hamilton at each of 18 holes. [email protected]
Were very low on mens casual pants and tops - please check your closets for anything you or your man no longer wears! We thank you so much for bringing in your gently used clothing donations [email protected]
Along with the rest of the community, we were saddened to hear that Holly Clark passed away, after hoping since the beginning of this year that she would be found safe. The community is welcomed by her family and friends to a Candlelight Vigil being hosted in her honour and memory.

We're also almost completely out of shampoo at Helping Hands! If you have any small hotel sized bottles, consider bringing them to us to give to the community. We'll also take regular sized bottles, for those who can make use of that. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Disinfectant wipes are hard to find nowadays! We'd love a supply of them, for quick wipe-downs of touched surfaces during our open hours. Please think of us if you see any around when you're shopping for cleaning supplies! [email protected]

Community is good. We're so thankful for each opportunity to do life with our friends here at Helping Hands Street Mission. See our newsletter at https://mailchi.mp//we-can-make-our-plans-but-god-directs-
Our vision requires us to address needs in partnership. So we are thrilled to encourage neighbouring organizations in their work to bring flourishing to Barton Village. Congratulations St Matthew's House @SMH_Hamilton on your #GreenMyCity plans!

In Memoriam: We are planning to host COVID-safe memorial times once in a while for friends who have passed on. These will be hosted in partnership between Helping Hands and family/friends of the deceased friend. Friday August 28 1-4pm we will honour the memory of Tracie Gates.
A friend is in need of a queen size bed and mattress for himself and his soon-to-be wife. If you know of one available for free in the lower Hamilton area, please connect [email protected]
We are running low on reusable face masks! Please consider donating them to Helping Hands Street Mission for use by vulnerable community members. Connect with us at [email protected] to donate!
We're accepting donations again! We are looking for these essentials: summer clothes, shoes, blankets, sheets, hygiene items (especially toothbrushes and razors). Put them into closed plastic bags or boxes and drop them off during our open hours (Wednesday and Friday 1-4 pm).
A Helping Hands friend is looking for support driving his van to empty it at a friend's house two blocks away from his home and figuring out which of his appliances work. He has PTSD, so these simple tasks are terrifying for him. Is anyone available in the Main Street/Sherman Ave area to help him? This is a great way to show Jesus' love very practically....
We're thankful to be able to be a part of this initiative and advocate on behalf of our community for better supports. Please pray with us that this work will break down barriers and create spaces of flourishing for everyone!

Plan to join us October 3 for a Golf Quest (our COVID-safe Golf Tournament alternative) to discover more about homelessness and poverty in Hamilton, how Helping Hands is involved with the community, and how your partnership is vital to our mission. https://www.hhsmhamilton.com/golf-tournament/.

Like every other organization, GOHOP and the Living Rock are being forced to innovate and adapt to the realities of COVID-19. The Prayer Truck behind Living Rock will not be used this year, HOWEVER, they are planning a 2-week prayer vigil (July 2-17) for the Living Rock and its youth, for people experiencing homelessness, and for injustices including racism and poverty from Thursday, July 2 to Friday July 17. Most of the prayer will be done remotely from home. However th...ey want to still bring prayer to the streets. Three hours a day (7:00am, 12:00pm and 3:00pm) will be available for prayer-walking the neighbourhood around the Rock. If you volunteer to pray during those times you are volunteering to pray and physically walk the neighbourhood. Maps and more information will be given to assist you in this. If you have any questions please contact Margie at [email protected] or Andy at [email protected]. Sign up for remote prayer slots or prayer walking at the link below. See more
It is with great sadness that we share with you, on behalf of Joanne Walker, that Wayne Stairs passed away on Friday. Please pray for her and all those who grieve for his loss. We'll keep you informed on a time or way for memoriam. In the meantime, Joanne has shared these photos of our good, kind and gentle friend Wayne.
Helping hands needed! We are hoping to be able to reopen in the next couple of weeks, but we need volunteers to be able to do so. Help out in our cafe or store on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday 12:45-4:15pm - please connect at [email protected]
Calling all face mask sewers! When we reopen in the next couple of weeks, we would like to be able to provide homemade face masks to our community as well as face mask laundry service for those without ready access to a laundry. Email [email protected] to offer your help!
Today will again be too hot for sidewalk connections :-(. Stay cool, stay safe, stay healthy everyone!
Just listening to an encouraging praise song by Sela as I work on a hopeful reopening plan for Helping Hands Street Mission. Please enjoy it at https://youtu.be/TwdXxBZBnSg

Indwell is a Christian charity providing affordable housing with support. Join their Virtual Gala Friday, June 12. At Helping Hands Street Mission we know first hand about the housing crisis, and look to organizations like Indwell to help our community! http://www.indwell.ca/
Sadly, the weather is too hot today for our sidewalk connection in front of Helping Hands. Please pray that we will be able to safely open as a cooling centre for at least a few people at a time by the time the next heat wave sets in. And continue to pray for all those negatively affected by social isolation, physical and mental health concerns, food and housing insecurity, and now also the heat.

Need someone to chat with? Alice will be sitting out front at Helping Hands this afternoon from 1-3pm, eager for some physical-distnace approved conversation. Come on by!
