, , . Like any other business, things dont always go as planned (full disclosure were speaking generally here) so lets take a trip down memory lane, shall we? About 8 - 10 years ago sales were down, enough that it was a reason for concern. We were at a standstill, left wondering where do we go from here?. We were anxious about the big box stores and their new offering...s, so yeah, we felt a little worried about the impact it would have on us, who wouldn't? While I didnt own the store yet, I was working closely with my father through our succession plan so he could retire. So, my goal at this point was intensely focused on getting the business, work in new ways. What did we do? We took risks we hadn't normally taken. We stepped out of our comfort zone and submitted an application on a tender listed by TOSH. We knew it was a longshot, but hey, when you have nothing to lose and only everything to gain, you put yourself out there and you just see what happens - amirite?! What happened next?... We got the work and yup, I priced it BARELY covering our costs (sorry Dad) , but it was a huge moment for us! Why? It created a world of opportunity - and then some. Had we not taken that leap we wouldnt have gotten our business listed as potential vendors moving forward. Shortly after our work with TOSH, another school consulted with us, a tender was posted and we again secured another contract! From there? Things snowballed and the next thing we knew, we were back in action taking on office upgrade projects one after the other and our business grew. What are we trying to say? Never give up. Ever. No matter how tough the going gets. Take it from the wise words of Tony Robbins, you know we did... "Expect change. Analyze the landscape. Take the opportunities. You spend a huge part of your life at your job - you need to love it. After taking computers in college like most I couldnt wait to get off the island and start a new gig. Where did I end up? In tech support...I hated it. Absolutely loathed it. I was working for a company who had only $$$$ in mind, what did I learn? It was NOT for me. It was a "dog eat dog world, money was first, customers were last - mmmm no thanks, that wasn't for me. It's just not in my make-up to do... business that way. I learned that I needed to believe and stand behind what I was offering. So I left and moved back home. To say it was the best decision I ever made is an understatement. My dad hired me after I moved home, but not without a personality test. Why? I guess he wanted to be sure I wasn't just looking for a job. I started working at the store doing every job possible, learning the ins and out because we had a plan - except bookkeeping -- trust me, no one wants me doing bookkeeping. Did I keep doing it despite its challenges, the requirement to work major overtime, and sacrificing time away from family and friends for it? 100% Why? Because I believed in what the business was doing for the staff, their families, local businesses, and the community. I believed in the companies we were (and still are) in partnership with. Most importantly, I believed in the products and services we offer our customers. So, before you go out and spend your hard-earned dollars, consider this checklist when shopping for the right ergonomic chair. 1 Pay attention to your arms and shoulders. One of the most overlooked parts of the shopping experience. Do you have to shrug your elbows on the armrests? 2 Does it have a full back and provide a multitude of adjustable positions, including lumbar support, height, and recline settings? 3 Does it have a waterfall seat (one that curves down) preventing the seat from catching you behind the knees? 4 Are your joints comfortable at a 90-degree angle (this is one of the biggest indicators that your current seat may not be working for you). 5 Does the chair have breathable upholstery? Your sitting in it all day, find something that will help keep you cool , not warm . 6 Does it have multiple adjustment features? The more adjustable directions you have the better it will be for your body. 7 Your chair should help to support you, even when youre being bad .
