Food Myth # 3 - Dairy is the best source of calcium for health. We all need strong bones and we need them to stay strong our entire lives. Calcium from the food we eat is not only needed for this but also for healthy teeth and skin, muscle development as well as many other functions in our bodies. Up until recently most experts claimed that dairy was the best source of calcium but this turns out to be a myth: there are many foods that are just as high (if not higher) in cal...cium than dairy products and in fact may be much more preferable especially for those with dairy allergies. One of the problems with dairy is that many people are sensitive or allergic to it or simply cannot digest it. As a consequence, problems with health result which can sometimes be severe. Children can have disrupted sleep, eczema, skin rashes and acne can be a common concern. A person’s bones can actually become weaker because of too much dairy. People who are able to eat organic dairy especially fermented dairy products such as kefir, yogurt, sour cream and cheeses clearly benefit from the good gut bacteria and other nutrients that these foods provide for us. For the majority of people, getting calcium from sources other than milk will keep them supplied with all the calcium their body needs. Cooked greens like collards and spinach top the charts as having the most calcium especially since they are highly absorbable. Did you know that: 3 ounces of sardines has 2/3 more calcium than 3 ounces of cow’s milk 1/4 cup of whole sesame seeds gives you more calcium than a cup of milk can of salmon has slightly more calcium than 4 ounces of yogurt 2 tablespoons of sesame seed butter and 1 cube cheddar cheese have the same amount of calcium Bottom Line: There are many excellent sources of calcium other than dairy to keep you healthy they are often the smarter choice.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This is a myth! The importance of eating breakfast might be one of the longest running myths when it comes to dietary health. You may not be hungry when you wake up and it could take a few hours before you start to crave food. This is definitely Ok. Studies now clearly show that for most people it doesn’t matter if you eat breakfast or not. The key is what you are eating when you are hungry.... You won’t be harming your health by skipping breakfast, your body will most likely even thank you for it. 1. Breakfast is not a must for your best health. In fact, why would you want to eat if you’re not hungry? It is probably because that’s what we’ve been told and believe. Your body will tell you when you need to eat if you pay attention to the signs. If you’re thirsty you will drink why would you eat if you’re not hungry? 2. We’ve all been told that you must eat breakfast if you want to lose weight. Not true. Study after study now shows us that you can skip breakfast and not gain weight. The key is to eat when you are hungry and to choose healthy foods. We do believe a healthy breakfast for children, teenagers, pregnant and nursing mothers, or those with special health conditions is often beneficial because their bodies require a more constant supply of nutrients . Bottom Line: For some people breakfast is necessary, but go ahead and skip it if you don`t feel hungry your body will tell you when to eat, choose healthy foods!
