An excellent video from one of our neighbouring watershed groups! Brushmats are used by many groups to collect suspended sediment in our waterways and help re-establish natural stream meander.

A natural digger log in the river, reinforced with sandstone / shale from the site to channel the flow and protect the digger log from being undercut. Digger logs are used to create holding areas for salmonids and also increase oxygen levels.

The Hunter-Clyde Watershed Group and UPEI are looking for the public's assistance regarding a theft that occurred at Campbell's Pond in New Glasgow this week. Six 12V Coleman solar panels (same as the one pictured below) which were part of an ongoing master's research project, were stolen sometime between Monday, November 23 and Wednesday, Nov 25. The panels were removed from their wooden stands and the wires were cut. They were wired into large metal storage boxes, which we...re also moved but were likely too heavy to steal. Each panel measures approximately 2 feet by 3 feet. If you have seen any suspicious activity at the pond over the past week, or have any information that may assist in the location of these missing panels, please contact the RCMP at 902-566-7112. Please share!

We came across an old duck box during our redd surveys last week, and with a little bit of detective work we determined that this box was not used by any of our feathered friends! If you look closely you can see a bit of fur stuck to the entrance hole, and the box is stuffed with ferns and other vegetation from the area. These clues point to two possible inhabitants: Red Squirrel or Northern Flying Squirrel. Did you know? Northern Flying Squirrels, though rarely seen, are considered to be common on PEI. Their nocturnal lifestyle allows them to go largely undetected; however, you may catch a glimpse of them at your bird feeders after dark!
