Renee Pauptit, who heads our Technical and Ops Committee, is finalising a business administration study. For her thesis, she chose to study the so-called 'volunteerability' of IFATCAs volunteers and the impact that IFATCAs organizational behaviour has in this matter. This includes researching what motivates the IFATCA volunteers and how IFATCA might improve its "attractiveness" for people to take on IFATCA work. The proposal of the European Commission on the revised Single European Sky package (known as SES II+) will create additional burden on Europe's ATM system. If traffic figures rise again, it will push the sector further down the road of fragmentation and a slowed down reform process. In a situation like the current one, with an operational coherence and efficiency as prime goal, a legislative package using the strength of the current system and provide legislative support to emerge from this latest crisis in a better shape would have provided the needed support to create a competitive and modern European Air Traffic Management infrastructure. On 17 November 2020, IFATCA held an informal online meeting to update its Member Associations on a the Federation's activities and issues. The Zoom meeting was attended by nearly 120 people. Besides the Executive Board, auditor and accountant, 54 Member Associations were represented. The latter is our best estimate as there was no roll-call. Since it was an informal meeting, no vote could take place. Happy International ATSEP day to our IFATSEA colleagues - the systems they maintain are a vital link between pilots and controllers. As such, our colleagues that install and maintain these systems are an absolutely essential component of the ATM chain. If it wasn't for COVID, we'd say 'hug a technician today' but given what the world is experiencing at the moment, you'll have to settle for a fistbump or a salute!
