Although 2020 has been a doozy of a year, that’s not stopping Selina and Kristen from getting into the festive spirit by creating a mini holiday wonderland in their office.
Be sure to look for the 2020 Imperial ‘Neighbour News’ newsletter in this week’s edition of The Sarnia Journal!
#ThrowbackThursday. Thank you to Linda Dobson for sharing this photo of her mother Mary Jane (Jean) Carpenter, who was a welder at Imperial Oil in Sarnia during WWII. Jean’s father, William John (Jack) Carpenter also worked for Imperial Oil. During the war, companies like Imperial faced labour shortages and began hiring women into jobs that were traditionally performed by men. #TBT
Our crews recently trained on tanker operations. The scenario was a mutual aid call where water supply would be scarce or non-existent. #AlwaysReady
The rainbow connection .
Imperial’s Michelle Laplante made it into the weekend edition of the Sarnia Observer, but she’s rather unrecognizable! Our site’s recent pie-face challenge raised $2300 for the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton.
We partnered with Cassie's Cottage Bakery on a United Way of Sarnia-Lambton fundraiser at our site today. Employees picked up pre-ordered boxes of delicious baked goods, and we were able to support a local business and the United Way. The butter tarts were extra delicious!
We hope you enjoyed our October Imperial employee profiles on animal adoption and rescue. Here are some outtake photos from our recent visit to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society. If anyone has ever tried to wrangle multiple pets and people together in a photo, you will appreciate this. #CommunityPartners
We love Esso and Mobil customers! And we know you’ll love our Espeedpass+ app. Pay for your gas and collect your PC Optimum points all from the warmth of your vehicle. Imperial is donating $5 to mental health organizations across Canada for every download of the Speedpass+ app until October 28, to a maximum of $140,000 (We’re celebrating 140 years this year). At Imperial Sarnia, we've chosen to direct funds to the Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent. Download Sp...eedpass+ from the App Store or Google Play today and help us at #FuelWhatMatters. https://www.esso.ca/enn-ca/speedpassplus This photo of Imperial Sarnia employees Warren and Haley with a happy Esso customer was taken prior to COVID measures.
Srdan and Nick are leaving no stone unturned in trying to meet our site’s $413,000 United Way of Sarnia-Lambton goal. The campain is now at 90%! This week, our online auction closed with $27,000+ raised. Wow! We also enjoyed a delicious fundraising lunch while supporting an awesome local business: Christo's. Employees & retirees, we can close in on that final 10% because we’ve got the BEST workforce around!
Pandemic measures have prompted us to get more creative in interacting with people outside of the Imperial Sarnia site. Carl recently facilitated a field tour with his cell phone and a pair of bluetooth headphones. While nothing tops face-to-face, this is a great temporary substitute.
Did you know that the Mobil1 Lube Express on Vidal Street in Sarnia was the first location under the brand to open in Canada? That was back in 2007. Thirteen years later, Shawn, Damon and Jon always have a smile on their faces and are quick to provide excellent service whenever we drop in!
Our adopted cats Luna and Layla were great company while I was working from home during the COVID-19 lockdown period. They kept watch over the neighbourhood from the front window (when they weren’t busy sleeping)! Before Luna and Layla, I wasn’t sure if I wanted a pet at all, but they’ve brought so much life into our otherwise quiet house. Now I can’t imagine life without them. Ashley Thompson, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
This is what fire school training looks like for Imperial Sarnia emergency responders. #AlwaysReady
To demonstrate thankfulness is to be kind, show appreciation and practice humility. In this season of Thanksgiving, we recognize our incredible Sarnia workforce and the beautiful community we are fortunate to live in. 2020 has been challenging for everyone, but it’s easy to look around and still find so much to be thankful for.
Phil Egan does it again! Sarnia-Lambton is blessed to benefit from Phil’s historical perspective and master storytelling. Enjoy his column on the Imperial Sarnia ship also known as the ‘Blue Zoo.’
Imperial breakfast volunteers Srdan and Adam were back at it at P. E. McGibbon Public School. Things are certainly different with COVID measures in effect, but it’s wonderful to see the school’s breakfast program continuing.
When Sammy arrived at the Sarnia Humane Society, she was in such poor condition that it wasn’t a given she’d make it, but the staff and volunteers never gave up. Now, she's healthy, active and spoiled. Sammy is a playful cat with an unbelievable personality. She loves sitting in while a conversation is going on as though she’s taking part. She always likes to be with at least one family member and finds one of us no matter what we’re up to, except vacuuming! Sammy has her us...ual ‘chaos moment’ at the same time every night when a sudden burst of energy has her darting up and down the stairs at lightning speed. Sammy is such a big part of our family, and our lives have changed for the better since she arrived. Steve Arseneault, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
Karen and Tanya from our environmental team were thrilled to step away from online meetings to spend a day working outside in the plant. (The clinical term is ZoomedOut). All bets are off that they’ll return to the office anytime soon.
"We adopted a Norwegian Elkhound puppy from the Sarnia Humane Society earlier this year. His name is Gary and he is an absolute hoot! We've since found out he has diabetes (we fondly refer to it as 'dog-a-beetus') and he needs insulin twice a day. We absolutely adore Gary, and he has made every day better for our family." Katelyn Charman, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
Attention contractors working onsite at Imperial! Drop by the Chippewa centre Wednesday, October 21 & Thursday, October 22 for a flu vaccine. Hours are 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. No appointment is necessary. First come, first served. Nurses from the Imperial Health Centre will be administering the shots. Here's nurse Tanya giving Scott from Kelgor his flu vaccine.
I’m on the Board of Directors for MotorCity Greyhound Rescue. It’s a Detroit based organization, but we facilitate adoptions in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario. We bring in sighthounds from around the world including China, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Oman and the UK for the purpose of adoption. In fact, we recently brought in six Irish greyhounds and they’re all being adopted in southern Ontario. Blossom is my dog, and she’s a rescue from a city on the China-Vietnam border. Some of you may recognize Blossom. She loves her daily walks, and her and I are a common sight along Front Street. Ben Caswill, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
We’re loving the new electronic Mobil sign at the entrance to the Sarnia Superstore. Do you know what we love even more? The convenience of selecting and paying for fuel at Esso and Mobil stations from inside our vehicle using the Speedpass+ app. Imperial is donating $5 to mental health organizations across Canada for every download of the Speedpass+ app until October 28, to a maximum of $140,000 (We’re celebrating 140 years this year). Thank you to our employees who came out today to support Imperial’s United Way of Sarnia-Lambton fundraiser with Burger Rebellion. Our $400,000+ site campaign is at 70%. With the best workforce and retirees around, we've got this Team Imperial!
Burger Rebellion is at our site today for a United Way of Sarnia-Lambton employee fundraiser. 180 pre-ordered meals ... it’s going to be a delicious lunch! #CommunityPartners
Congratulations to this member of our Imperial Sarnia family, retiree Jim Curry! A couple of days ago, Jim adopted a new furry friend. Thank you to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society for sharing this sweet photo with us. Jim, we wish you and your new buddy a lifetime of cuddles, walks and companionship.
My family is fostering kittens through the Sarnia Humane Society. We have a litter currently living with us who sadly lost their mother shortly after birth. This isn’t our first time fostering, and it’s always a rewarding experience. It’s also a volunteer service that’s very much needed in our community. Dave Jewell, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
#ThrowbackThursday to the 2003 edition of the Sarnia Observer’s ‘Year of Local’ and an article focusing on Imperial’s beginnings in Sarnia. Thanks Aaron Huggett for digging this up! #TBT
When my husband and I first saw Zeus on the Sarnia Humane Society website, he was tagged as ‘special needs.’ When we got to the shelter, a volunteer told us that even though Zeus was just a year old, he was mostly blind in both eyes. After spending some time with him, we noticed he didn’t let his lack of sight hold him back. Zeus ran around, fetched and followed a command to sit. Once we heard his signature husky howl, we were in love and applied to adopt him. I love Zeus’s goofy personality and cuddly nature. He’s the source of a lot of laughter in our house. Jessie Braun, Contractor at Imperial Sarnia This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
Exciting news! Imperial is donating $5 to mental health organizations across Canada for every download of the Speedpass+ app from October 14 to 28, to a maximum of $140,000. At Imperial Sarnia, we've chosen to direct funds to the Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent. Last year, we contributed $25,000 to CMHA to go towards the Access Open Minds youth centre, and they've been a great partner organization. We're appreciative of the excellent work they do in our commun...ity. To find out more about CMHA, visit https://lambtonkent.cmha.ca/ Speedpass+ is a free, all-in-one fuel app that lets you pay for fuel at Esso and Mobil stations and earn rewards. So many integral organizations in our community have been challenged in the pandemic environment. Katherine, from the Imperial Women’s Interest Network, dropped by the Women's Interval Home of Sarnia Lambton today with a good news announcement on behalf of our site: a $10,000 contribution! The home offers emergency shelter services to women and children, a 24-hour crisis line, a transitional support and housing program and support/counseling groups. #CommunityPartners
Willow was being fostered by someone I knew. She had been diagnosed with heart worm and was being nursed back to health. It didn't take long for her to win me over. Once the fostering was complete and Willow got a clean bill of health, my family adopted her through the Sarnia Humane Society. She’s taught me how close the neighborhood park is and I really enjoy our daily walks. A game of fetch or just watching Willow with a chew toy always makes me smile. Paul Hallett, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
I’ve always believed that adopting rescue animals is the right thing to do. When we went to the Humane Society, they brought Lockett to the dog run out back. He jumped into the kiddie pool and started running in circles with his head under water. We knew he was the perfect match for our family since we like spending time on the lake. We later adopted Kiwi the cat so that Lockett could have a friend. Rick Guindon, Imperial Sarnia employee This month, in conjunction with a $15,000 contribution to the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society, we’re featuring stories of Imperial Sarnia employees who have adopted a pet.
