There was a time when things didn’t look as good I was living in a long-term care home and receiving low levels of daily care. My health was on a downward spiral and my future prospects looked bleak. I thought about the possibility of medical assistance in dying and whether it might make sense for me at some future time However, I still get to enjoy an occasional glass of red wine in small doses, via a sponge in my mouth. I have lots of company every day (hospital staff... and frequent visitors) and once or twice a month I go out to events in the community. Most recently, to the ballet Romeo and Juliet for Valentine’s Day. And I have a girlfriend with whom I am planning an exciting future! Does life get much better than this?-Paul Read Paul’s story, and take action. We have one month to stop Bill C-7, legislation that would create a new pathway to assisted dying for people who are not dying - as long as they have a disability. http://worthliving.ca/2020/06/30/pauls-story/

"As someone who has lived for 67 years with a degenerative medical condition, I am alarmed at how easily, when we are not paying close attention, a human-rights norm can be toppled." Amendments to Bill C-7 threatens the human rights and very lives of persons with disabilities in Canada.

Do not give me one excuse that gets in the way of a child with Down syndrome’s education, of their human rights. We must ensure that children with a disability are not pushed out of the education system because of the pandemic. Dignity, common sense, kindness and love are needed to support the full inclusion of children with disabilities in the education system during the COVID-19 pandemic. https://bit.ly/36vh9eG

This is simply unacceptable in 2020. We can and must do better. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on people with an intellectual disability and their families. There is no targeted plan that prioritizes their inclusion in society. In a recent op-ed, David Onley discusses the strategies that need to be implemented to ensure the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in a post-pandemic world. ... https://bit.ly/2GuIweg

People with disabilities appear to be falling through the cracks and long-standing stereotypes continue to creep into stories by major news outlets.
