Happy Boxing Day everyone. Just to let you know our x-country ski and snowshoe trails are groomed up and ready for you to enjoy. They start and end right on Stark road at the entrance to Jeannies Greenhouse. We've teamed up with the Lakeshore Regional Wellness Commission and also have 10 pr of snowshoes on loan from the Recreation Commission. They can be rented for $5 an outing which goes towards buying more equipment. Call Tim at 204-302-1043 to book a pair. Like everywhe...re, there are Covid rules in effect...like social distancing, restrict your visit to members of your household, staying away if you are symptomatic, sick or have been in close contact with sick or symptomatic people.... Trail use is free...bring a thermos of hot chocolate or a back pack with water and snacks if you like... Dogs under control are allowed but keep in mind there are numerous rabbits, squirrels, foxes and polar bears on the property they may wish to pursue...... Enjoy the fresh air and the exercise. Here's the last day of the bale garden...Early Oct.
Hi all, by now your garden tools are probably stored away... waiting for spring. It'll come faster than we think. We've been busy getting our orders in, re-stocking our supplies, put some new plastic on the back greenhouse and doing general maintenance. I shut the water off to the greenhouse so my strawbale garden is also done. But it's too cold now at night anyway. We ate the last tasty tomatoes, cucs, and peppers this past week. Another thing we've been busy at is cleaning ...up the trail system in the back 80 acres. Last years storm had left alot of downed trees and although I got to some, there were still lots to clean up. What we are thinking for the winter, when snow arrives, is to open up our trails for x-country skiing and snow shoeing. You can ski for about 5km back there and further if you make more loops. Same for snowshoeing. We cant supply equipment but if you own or can borrow some we'd love to see you on the trails. Jean and I both bought new skis this month and were surprised how busy the store was for selling skiis already,(Life Sport on Pembina). With Covid, I'm sure we"ll be looking for some outdoor activity to stretch our legs etc. So we'll keep you posted on the opening date...snow dependent of course. Cheers. Jean and Tim

Hello everyone. We may be closed for the season but we will attempt to keep updated on events etc....FYI...FROST WARNING for Fisher Branch on Env Canada Weather site. CTV weather says going down to 6 in Ashern which I usually subtract 3 from their forecast ... regardless... if the skies clear off it could get close to 0 overnight...so take whatever measures to ensure the safety of your plants. Let's hope it doesnt happen. Tim

Potential Frost in the forecast. Environment Canada forecasts a low of 0C tonight. Temperatures will vary throughout the region. Take precautions to protect your plants....cover or bring them indoors.
We had a visit from 3 University of Brandon students who asked to access our trails to collect wood ticks for a study they are working on. One student was Jessica Sparrow, center, granddaughter of Kathy and Vic Avery. They were hoping to collect 300 ticks...they were out about an hour and collected 400+/-. They were happy...lol.

Herbs can add just the right touch of flavour to your summer beverages! This is a virgin mojito but feel free to add some rum! Snip the mint leaves from the top of the plant to promote more growth and to keep your plant healthy! The smaller leaves tend to have more flavour and sweetness. Recipe:... In a tall glass add a wedge of lime (or 2!), 4-5 mint leaves and a 1/2 tbsp of sugar or sweetener. Muddle it up with the end of a wooden spoon or pestle to get the flavours to blend. Fill the glass with ice, add a shot of white rum if you like, then fill to the top with club soda. Give it a stir and garnish with extra mint or a lime wedge! Enjoy!
Hope you are all enjoying this great Victoria Day Holiday Monday...we are open today from 10-7.
