K2's first employee! Happy summer 2018 everybody!! It's been an awesome year for K2 so far (many thanks to our wonderful customers and partners!), and we've put a lot of mileage on our vehicles while visiting our clients, picking up case work, and delivering our products. Therefore, we are very pleased to announce the addition of our first "full-time" employee - this 2018 Nissan Micra! It's a blast to drive, great on gas, and just the perfect delivery vehicle for us! Probably won't bring anything to the staff potluck though...hopefully our next employee will.

Going metal-free, a beautiful alternative.. Continuing our survey of dental laboratory materials, we turn our attention to lithium disilicate. With traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, the chief complaint is that they can look opaque, particularly in the front of the mouth and near the gum line. This is due to limited space for porcelain coverage, and the fact that the metal substructure does not allow light to pass through the tooth as it would naturally. Enter lithi...um disilicate, a translucent, durable, versatile and extremely aesthetic alternative to metal. The first step is to digitally design and then mill the material while it is in a softer, intermediate form which is blue in color. It is then crystallized at high temperature to strengthen the material, and reveal its true shade. Finally, ceramic may then be applied to final contour. The result is a beautiful, robust crown with excellent optical qualities...a great choice for anterior restorations! K2 Dental Laboratory is pleased to offer lithium disilicate, a beautiful alternative!

Welcome to K2s CAD room! Time for some tech talk! As you may already know, CAD stands for Computer Assisted Design. Here, we use the 3Shape E2 model scanner to turn our physical working models and dies into 3D digital image files. We then import these files into our design software and create what is needed for the case. Be it full gold crowns, zirconia or emax crowns and copings, inlays, onlays, veneers, bridge frameworks or implant restorations; everything we make (with t...he exception of layered ceramics) is designed right here with amazing precision. Margins and proximal/occlusal contacts are adjustable to 1/100th of a millimeter. Incredible! Shade communication between the dental clinic and laboratory can be very complicated, particularly when teeth in the esthetic zone (ie: the smile) are involved.
