I just have a lot of feelings... This entire session was so emotionally charged and every image holds something unique. This one in particular feels like a release or breaking free from past pain. This past year, we have all experienced so much change, and while it has not all been negative, for many of us this has been one of the most challenging and painful years. For as long as I have been on Instagram, I have been drooling over @niravphotography work and wishing I could create beautiful, cinematic images like his. This is going to sound cheesy, but I truly seem to get the BEST clients. I don't just mean because they are all gorgeous (that's a given). What’s the most awkward thing you’ve ever said/had said to you on a photoshoot? Giving direction is so important, but it can be extremely challenging both for the person giving the prompts and for the person being directed. I have recently learned that I give a LOT of direction during my portrait sessions, and very specific direction ... but with this direction also comes excellent phrasing like, I want you to do more hand stuff (meaning poses with your hands, get your mind...s out of the gutter ) I work quite differently depending on the type of shoot I'm doing and with weddings portraits, unlike with traditional Portraits, I tend to be a little quieter and I like to watch how you move and connect as a couple. * Photogs - what is your prompting style? * Non-camera-holders- how much direction do you like to receive on a shoot? Why everyone should have a portrait session, once in their lifetime (at least). ~A short essay by Kelly Schuster Exhibit A ... The end. ........... All jokes aside, as should now be obvious, portraits are a passion of mine. The reason portraits hold such a special place in my heart is that they are a chance to showcase who you are and embrace all the amazing, beautiful, even quirky things about yourself and to see yourself as others see you (which is often a far kinder version). When you look at your photos from a portrait session I want the photos to *feel* like you. They should be more than just pretty photos of a pretty face. They should showcase your unique vibe and attitude. Whether you are the quiet, soft spoken type, or a rough around the edges, swear-like-a-sailer type, your photos should be a true representation of who you are. This means that some people’s portraits might look soft and ethereal while others might have a harder edge. I never want to change you into something you are not. I have been shooting a lot of boudoir lately and have been so inspired by these incredible women who step in front of my lens. These ladies are not afraid to be raw and real and vulnerable. Can we get some water shots?.... ummm YES PLEASE! The soggy drive home is so worth it for images like this. Following in the footsteps of my dear friend @alekssharpeimagery , instead of sharing some random facts about me I will get a little more personal for a change. Here are some things to know: I will always support you, listen without judgement, hype you up, and do everything I can for you to feel beautiful and empowered during our sessions. ... I am a great listener and although I am often quiet when in a group, I will always speak up for those issues and people that matter most to me. Life has not been particularly easy for me and I have a lot going on in my life most of the time, but I keep that very close to the chest. I am a pro at keepin’ on keepin’ on. For this reason, I value deep, meaningful connections and will always opt for a chat and a coffee over a night out. In all of my business endeavours, my clients always end up becoming my friends. I love to get to know the people I’m working with and, as like seems to attract like, the people I meet tend to be amazing and we just click. While I don’t tend to curse in my posts, in person I swear like a sailor on leave so don’t be alarmed. I scheduled this post of @rhi_dibley days ago, and only just learned that it is actually her birthday today! Show her some birthday love in the comments please I have a few exciting styled shoots in the works and they are giving me life right now! I can't believe I went so many years without a creative outlet. In highschool, I had several creative pursuits: painting, singing, photography, acting (not saying I excelled at any but I loved them). Once highschool ended though, I... went over ten years without picking up a paintbrush and more than 5 years without using my camera. Life happens. We get busy and have other priorities. With two businesses (and the dreadful business of adulting lol), I am busier now than I've ever been, but now I make the time to be creative. That has been a game changer for my mental health and happiness. One of my favourite things about boudoir photography is the way you can create an incredibly sexy and sultry image, by revealing very little, all while empowering the beautiful person in front of your Lens. Working with @rubyroxxmodel was an absolute dream. I feel so incredibly fortunate that she chose to book with me and given how instantly we clicked, I imagine many many more shoots in our future!
