Update from President Derek Pinder: Thank you to all of you who have renewed your club membership. We have had a good response so far and hope that the rest of you will renew in the coming days. The official shutdown of the clubhouse has been extended to June 30th. All but two of the events scheduled for May and June have been cancelled and our first event is now planned for July 1st, Canada Day.... The Australian Pairs tournament has been rescheduled for Saturday September 12th and we are still talking to Pickering LBC regarding a new date for the Pickering Challenge. The City has conceded that we need to mow the greens and that has already started. Hoping for better times ahead. Very best wishes Derek Pinder President

These are the Bowls Canada Return to Play Protocols. They are currently being reviewed by the insurance company used by the OLBA for liabilty insurance. OLBA instructions should come next week.

Please be advised that all KBLBC activities are postponed until further notice. The City has locked the club and posted a notice of closure on the door. A newsletter with further information will be sent out soon.

Col. Sanders dropped by to play the last club event of the season - the usual Thanksgiving-Halloween game. It's been another great year of bowls at Kew Beach Lawn Bowling Club.

Just a quick note that Wednesday and Saturday bowling is still on. Esther and Stephen Ashby will be opening the club.

Thanksgiving BBQ event: Monday, October 14, 2019 We will play 1 - 12 end game starting at 3pm, with a BBQ to follow. Please arrive 15 minutes early to give us time to organize the teams.... Dress code is casual or a Halloween theme. There is a sign-up sheet at the club, or send an e-mail to Emily Smith, so she knows how much food to buy! Cost is $5 for members and $7 for guests.

There have been some questions at recent tournaments regarding the responsibilities of the Vice: how to measure, who should measure, and where to stand in the head....and more. So our president and certified coach, Joanne Smith, will be holding a Vice’s Clinic this Friday at 5:15pm before we start the Pizza Bowl. SOOOO if you have ever been a Vice, want to be a Vice, or just wonder what a Vice does, please join us for the Clinic....All are welcome.

Are you interested in participating in an In-Club Playdown to determine a club representative to play in the District 10 Playdown taking place August 31st at West Toronto LBC? The winner of the District Playdown must be prepared to compete in the Ontario Novice Singles Championship at Richmond Hill LBC September 21 & 22 for Women and Stouffville LBC September 21, with finals at Richmond Hill September 22 for Men. Novice Singles Championship (Novice - year one to year five in...clusive) Entry fee of $30.00 at Districts and $35.00 at Provincials for every player Players must first win their club to qualify for Districts which is why we are now asking for those who are interested to let us know so a playdown date at the club can be arranged. Players must meet OLBA eligibility rules The deadline for expressed interest will be August 17th, with an In-Club Playdown date to be determined. Saturday is Fun Day at our Club. Everyone is invited to take part and I know a lot of you have signed up. But we have room for everyone. Just walk in about 9:30 and we'll be bowling shortly thereafter. Fun Day will be a series of events, mostly on a team basis. You'll bowl with a lot of different people and experience bowling in a different way. None of the events will involve regular bowling though some will be a variation on it. So bring a lunch and $5 (there will be prizes...). As our president likes to say - Be there or be square.

The greens (well the upper green) is ready for the Solstice Bowl tonight! Bowling starts at 8. Be early to set up teams and welcome our guests from Toronto Rainbowlers. $5 for bowling good times. Wear black or colours of the rainbow.

There's bowling and croquet on Saturday from 10 am. Non-members are also invited this weekend to the club for free lessons and to get more info on the games.

C'mon down to our gorgeous lake-side club today and throw something, or maybe hit something. It's all fun and games, and no one loses an eye!

2019 Men's League kicks off on Tuesday May 28th. Play starts at 10 am. It'll be a normal jitney for the first two weeks and then the usual eight-week competition where everybody throws $10 into the hat starts. The competition is organised such that novices and experts all have a chance of winning. Organizer Derek says he hopes you toss in $10 even if you can’t make all eight games, but if you can only play occasionally and choose not to participate in the competition, not to be deterred. If you turn up, you’ll get a game.

Thanks to all at Pickering Lawn Bowling club for hosting us for this year's challenge. The weather was a bit complicated but that didn't stop the intrepid bowlers. Kew Beach took the trophy this year but we'll battle it out again in 2020!

Good times were had on opening day this past weekend. Thanks to Gene for the history lesson and letting us know our club in all its forms has been around about 130 years. The tournament that was scheduled at the Club this Saturday will not take place. That leaves the greens open soooooo lets have an inclub bowl. Please note that for the next 2 weeks our Thursday lunch ‘n bowl is canceled. We will have our lunch ‘n bowl on Friday instead. This is just for July. Come August we will be back to our normal Monday and Thursday afternoon bowling. Our sponsor Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, Dignity Memorial will be holding an event to support Diabetes Canada. On July 25th at 10 a.m. the Club will open up the patio as the registration and starting point for the "Dignity Dog Walk". This is a great opportunity to support the community, Diabetes Canada, and have a fun event at the Club. Soooooooooo for all of you have a dog, or have friends with dogs, or want to borrow your neighbours dog for the day, come on down and do the walk.

Due to a last minute cancellation of June 20th event, and after some discussion we will continue with an event on June 28th at 2 p.m. Therefore Thursday bowling will not take place that day. This is a most unusually situation. Apologies for any inconvenience.

SAFETY NOTE. If you are coming to the club for the open house or to play, there is a large tree down at the main entrance. Please use the gate on the west side (by the ice rink)

We will officially kick off our Tuesday Morning Men’s League Bowling on Tuesday, June 5th at 10:00 a.m. Please arrive at least 15 minutes earlier so we can set up the greens and prepare the draw. Derek will coordinate the actual competition upon his return from travel later in June. But we will begin with some warm-up matches this coming Tuesday.
