My five-year-old daughter and I were just about ready to leave Target today when it started to pour rain. We stopped our cart behind the automatic glass doors ...and looked out at the windy wet parking lot. In front of us other finished shoppers were waiting, either for a designated family member to pick them up at the sidewalk or for the weather to lessen. "Do we wait or just get wet," I asked my little one. "Let's just get wet," she said. We waited five minutes - because our car wasn't parked close - but the rain only got worse. So, we decided to make a run for it. On our way out, I asked my daughter if she was sure. "It's going to be cold," I said. "Let's go," she exclaimed. We hurried across the lot, buckets of water dumping on us. I got her into the car, unloaded our bags and hopped in the front seat. I turned the heater on, thinking my daughter would complain she was cold. "Mom," she said. "Are you okay," I asked, turning around to see her smiling big. "We did this," she said. "You did this. We got wet. Now, we can go home." As I turned the heater on and drove home in the storm, I thought about all the people still at Target waiting on it to pass. How often do we let life's storms keep us from getting where God has called us to go? We think, if we just wait, whatever obstacle we are facing might go away. We freeze on the other side of the door. We make the comfortable choice. But our avoidance is more impactful than just being stuck in a store on a Saturday afternoon. When we avoid walking through life's challenges, we miss out on all God has for us. When we hesitate to step out on faith, we wind up perpetually standing still. My daughter wasn't hesitant to go out into the rain today. She embraced the inconvenience as part of the day's journey. She was willing to take on a challenge to get where she wanted to go. Sometimes in life, you have to get wet. mamadickinson

To the faithful of Holy Martyrs of Japan Parish, REOPENING: June 11th, 2021 Last week, Cardinal Collins had the opportunity, along with a number of local faith ...leaders, to meet with Premier Ford, Minister Elliott and Dr. Williams. The discussions were thoughtful and productive. This afternoon, the provincial government announced revisions to the Roadmap for Reopening as they relate to places of worship. The updated measures will result in places of worship opening at 15% capacity in Step 1 and 25% capacity in Step 2. We are grateful to the government for these amendments. Step 1 of the provincial reopening plan will begin on Friday, June 11 (Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus). Therefore, Cardinal Collins has asked all parishes to open churches observing the new capacity restrictions at that time. Our Parish will reopen Friday: 6PM for Adoration, followed by Holy Mass at 7PM. Saturday AM: 9AM Saturday PM: 5PM Sunday: 10AM (Livestream as well), 12PM, 6:30PM All Masses will be on a first come first serve basis - with a capacity limit of 112 people in the building (15% of total capacity). A few notes to remember: Parishes should begin to celebrate public Masses as soon as they are certain they can implement our WorshipSafe health and safety protocols. Holy Communion services (aka Communion Drive-thru) should be discontinued once we move into Step 1. No meetings should take place in parish halls or other church spaces during Step 1. The only exception would be those deemed as essential services eg. Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous Meetings, food bank, etc.) These gatherings should be restricted to 10 people and ensure that all appropriate health and safety measures are in place (use of masks, hand sanitizer, physical distancing, etc.). Virtual meetings should replace in-person meetings wherever possible. As in the past, please ensure that all WorshipSafe guidelines are followed. The faithful should be reminded not to congregate in large numbers in or around the church before or after services. Particular attention should be directed to weddings, funerals and baptisms. Livestreaming of services should continue where this practice is underway and the dispensation from the Sunday Eucharist continues. The elderly, those with compromised immune systems or other health conditions should be encouraged to exercise extreme caution about any outings, including attendance at church. Finally re: First Communion: Even though the province is reopening, we will still be postponing First Communion towards the later reopening phases. More details to be released after our new Pastor arrives in July. I pray you all stay safe and well. Thank you for your patience and support throughout this time. Pax Christi, Fr. Joshua
Say this prayer every night from now to Pentecost: "Jesus, I belong to you. I want you to possess me. Help me get to know you. Teach me how to love you. Show me how to serve you."

St. Faustina said, "I please Him best by meditating on His sorrowful Passion." (Diary 267) Jesus said, "I desire that you know more profoundly the love that b...urns in My Heart for souls, and you will understand this when you meditate on My Passion." (Diary 186) St. Fausina said, "I saw how the Lord Jesus suffered as He was being scourged. Oh such an inconceivable agony! How terribly Jesus suffered during the scourging! O poor sinners, on the day of judgement how will you face the Jesus whom you are now torturiing so cruely? His blood flowed to the ground, and in some places His flesh started to fall off. I saw a few bare bones on His back. The meek Jesus moaned softly and sighed." (Diary 188)
Update Re: Reopening Hi everyone, Lots of questions still in the air regarding what exactly reopening will look like - but it'll all depend on what "Colour Zone..." we're in. As of right now, (Feb. 8th), it is unclear as to what zone we'll be in. If we're in the Grey Zone - it'll be the same as what we are in right now. If we're in the Red or otherwise, we can resume our 30% capacity rule and Sunday and Daily Masses will resume once again. I will post updates on Facebook, Twitter (https://twitter.com/holy_martyrs), and the website (https://holymartyrsofjapan.archtoronto.org/) once we know more details. Please be patient with us as we look towards reopening and seeing all of you once again! I look forward to being able to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with people in the congregation! Pax Christi, Fr. Joshua
Happy Feast Day everyone! "O God, strength of all the Saints, who through the Cross were pleased to call the Martyrs Saint Paul Miki and companions to life, gra...nt, we pray, that by their intercession we may hold with courage even until death to the faith that we profess. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen!"
Happy Birthday!!!
It’s easy to dehumanize someone you can’t see. That’s why the child in the womb is so often dehumanized and killed he or she are invisible to many. Showing their humanity saves lives.
Let’s continue being courageous leaders in our communities!
Brother Knights! I cannot wait to take this journey. I’m still hoping there will be some of you join us. Vivat Jesus
Please pray for protection of this Priest and courage to continue speaking the truth
